Default Starting Wood Elves

I think I'm going to start Wood Elves and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions aside from "get the codex."

It's actually called the "Warhammer Armies Book"... low tech...

I have the same question, WE are my first choice when I get around to starting a Fantasy army.

I would sit down with the Army Book for a while before you actually buy any models. Decide whether or not you want to play an all forest spirit army. The Battalion is probably the best deal if you are playing a generic Wood Elf force. There is enough in there for a pretty good starter army. The winter army they mention with large blocks of Eternal Guard is going to be very expensive to field if they don't come out with plastic Eternal Guard, so I can't really recommend it.

I was thinking of doing a themed army. It would have an elf for a general who was exiled from his kingdom. Thus elves avoid him, thus he uses tree spirits as his troops.

hmmmmm interesting, a bit weird but interesting.

why do I say weird? well for one thing, I believe that elves and trees will be much closer in this round of the wood elves, so saying, would the exiled general not be exiled from the trees as well?

I have some ideas but see them for ideas please.

1 - don't have the elf exiled but a loner, more comfortable in the trees by himself then in elven company, a such hence the trees and stuff, also allows more solitary units like the scouts and waywatchers if you like.

2 - make the general a tree, that's the easy way.

3 - make him a gifted tree singer and so hece the trees fight for him?

just some ideas, use 1 or use none, I don't mind.

either way I would look at getting a couple of boxes of dryads to make a core force and decide on what leader you want.

hope that helps.

Oddly, enough, they seem to be both closer and further apart in this edition. The introduction of a large population of Tree Spirits who really don't like the Asrai very much is responsible for this.

I gather you meant an exiled High Elf? The Wood Elves don't really have kingdoms, exactly. The only reason you would have to use all Tree Spirits is if you want to use Drycha.

Well I did actually mean an exiled Wood Elf but an Exiled High Elf also works. I actually thought that the reason that my general would've been exiled is for political reasons, such as he was accused of killing his superior but there was no evidence as to the real killer. The judge of the case knows this and exiles him instead of executing him. The trees still fight with him because they know he didn't do it and they also aren't part of WE politics. I may have an Eternal guard as the generals bodyguards but just because they are his most loyal followers and chose exile as well to remain with him.
