Default noob looking for information about fantasy armies.

Good morning,
I have watched many people move those trays loaded with compact formations of troops and I have decided I want to play too...
I am currently painting 2500 pts of 40k orks and before I get caught up painting a complex fantasy army I want to finish them. But I think I would enjoy picking up the basics of a fantasy warhammer army. In these forums I have heard that a good starting army might be vampire counts, tomb kings, oger kingdoms, or lizard men. I don't have any fantasy equipment but I was going to go buy a rule book and army book today. What army is the easiest to paint, easy to learn, and still fun to play ?
I am an ork player, so I don't mind losing a lot to start, and from what little I know I am partial to the vampire counts, and tomb kings because I love zombie movies, and oger kingdoms because I love hamfisted drunks.
thank you for your time.

For easy painting id go Vamp Counts or Tomb Kings with lots of skellys.

1. Black Undercoat
2. Drybrush Elf Flesh
3. Drybrush Elf Flesh+Bleached Bone 50/50 mix
4. Drybrush Elf Flesh+Bleached Bone+Skull White 40/40/20 Mix

Jobs a good un! You can easy do a 20 strong unit of skellys in an evening.

Kewl, I love the idea of a shambling hoard.... are there any big differences between tomb kings and vampire counts ?

to be honest it's been a long time since ive used anything undead related (they where just called Undead then) but as far as I know its:

Vamp Counts: Powerfull Characters (combat & magic), Zombies, Gouls, Wights, Black Coach ect.
Tomb Kings: Powerfull Characters (magic, think you need a min of 2 liche priests in 1000pts?), chariots, Mummys, Tomb Scorpions ect.

Put it this way which did you like better, The Mummy or Dracula?

I'd say the best starting armies are:

Empire,
Lizardmen,
OgreKingdoms.

In that order. Vamps can be quite hard for a new player to use, also if you are thinking long term they are quite different to most other armies so you could have a hard time adapting when you go for your second force.

Tomb kings are very different and work differently to every other army, particularly their magic phase (which is a big part of TK's).

Vampires themselves are hard yes, although most of their units can not hold their own particularly against armies with good LD, the fact that they are also slow can compound this matter as you may not be able to get support in.

Still if you do go for them which bloodline would you get?, we can help you more from there.
