Default Looking at starting Vampires Need Help building List.

Looking at starting my first Warhammer Fanatasy Army, Vampires specifically and even more a Stogi/Ghoul based army. Just wondering what I should look at buying for a 2000pt army. I do know that I want Ghouls, Dire Wolves, a Vargulf or perhaps two, and of course some Vampires. IF anyone out there has experience with Vampires and would like to hlep me build a list please do so.

Sure, will do

Just want some things clear...
What's your playstyle? Casty or combaty or a mixture? Herohammer or only a few? Strigoi originally come without equipment/with few equipment, want me to keep that in? What are your thoughts about Grave Guard/Black Knights yay or nay?

Kewl thanks for the help/interest.

1/ Unsure so I will go with Mixture;
2/ Herohammer cause from what I understand the Characters are what make or break a Vampire army;
3/ Yes Few equipment would be kewl I actually went through the Artifacts today and wrote down the ones that interest me:

a/ Magic Armour: Night Shroud
b/ Magic Wpns: Blood Drinker
c/ Enchanted Items: Helm of Commandment and The Cursed Book;
d/ Tailsmans: Wristbands of Black Gold;
e/ Archane Items: The Book of Arkan, Sceptr de Noirot, The Black Periapt; and
f/Magic Standards: Banner of the Dead Legion

4/ I would like a list that does not have any skeletons at all in it; and
5/ Black Knights are fine by me since they are Vampires.

I basically would like a Skeleton Free army that revolves around several Vampires (Vargulfs and Bloodnights welcome) and an army of Ghouls. The only type of unit I'm not open to are skeleton based ones but anything else I'm open to. I also noted down today the Vampire Powers that caught my eye's attention:

1/GhoulKin
2/Supernatural Horror
3/Dark Acolyte
4/ Flying Horror
5/ Infinite Hatred
6/ Hunter in the Dark
7/ Red Fury
8/ Summon Ghouls

Ok, I've thought up two lists. You can play around it it how you like. I didn't succeed in bringing in all the powers and items you found interesting since I didnt always find a use for them, but I tried my best and kept a bit to your Strigos fluff.
List 1 - Disruption:
CHARACTERS:
Vampire Lord 'The Grotesque Hyena" (lvl 4) 435
-Supernatural Horror
-Flying Horror
-Dark Acolyte
-Wristbands of Black Gold
-Skull Staff
-Extra Level

Vampire 'Strigos Royal Guard Captain' (lvl 1) 205
-Battle Standard Bearer (Royal Banner of Strigos)
-Avatar of Death (Heavy Armour+Shield)
-Ghoulkin

Vampire 'Crypt Librarian' (lvl 2) 195
-Dark Acolyte
-Sumon Ghouls
-Black Periapt
-Book of Arkhan

Necromancer 'The Rotten' (lvl 1) 200
-Nightshroud
-Sceptre de Noirot
-Corpse Cart (balefire)

CORE:
20 Ghouls (Ghast) 168
20 Ghouls (Ghast) 168
10 Ghouls 80
10 Ghouls 80
7 Dire Wolves 56
7 Dire Wolves 56
1 Corpse Cart (balefire) 100

SPECIAL:
4 Fell Bats 80

RARE:
1 Varghulf 175

Ok, this list contains 8 PD en 5 DD. Pretty decent all round. The Lord is a pretty nifty caster and a hideous sight to behold. He can fly up to the enemy ranks and cause terror and use some magic to annoy and disrupt the enemies tactics untill the main force arrives. His wristbands makes sure he's pretty gaurded against missles and his wings can get him out of trouble. Still watch it though . The other vampires are self-explanatory. The Corpse Carted Necro tags along with the main line of units, his nightshroud makes sure it doesnt get killed by fast troopers. His only purpse is to strengthen the lines bringing up zombie shocktroopers. The main Ghoul blocks are for frontal shockers when the zombies don't suffice, the smaller ghouls can either be brought up, or manouver around to the flanks, which is the same the Dire Wolves will do. The Fell Bats join the Lord for protection or go war machine hunting. The Varghulf gives support to whereever his strenght is needed.
The Corpse Carts and the Skull Staff make it pretty rough for enemy wizards to cast.

List 2: Personal Attention
CHARATERS:
Vampire Lord 'The Hyena Beast' (lvl 2) 380
-Red Fury
-Infinite Hatred
-Ghoulkin
-Walachs Bloody Hauberk
-Enchanted Shield
-Sword of Might

Vampire 'The Watcher' (lvl 2) 175
-Dark Acolyte
-Summon Ghouls
-Helm of Commandment

Vampire 'The Legionnaire' (lvl 1) 195
-Battle Standard Bearer (Dead Legion)
-Walking Death
-Avatar of Death (Heavy Armour, Shield)

Vampire 'Crypt Librarian' (lvl 1) 200
-Master of the Black Arts
-Book of Arkhan
-Black Periapt

CORE:
20 Ghouls (Ghast) 168
20 Ghouls (Ghast) 168
12 Ghouls (Ghast) 104
10 Ghouls (Ghast) 88
7 Dire Wolves 56
7 Dire Wolves 56
7 Dire Wolves 56

SPECIAL:
1 Varghulf 175
1 Varghulf 175

The Lord of this list takes an enemy regiment, chops it too pieces, then takes the pieces and chops them up again. He is very very Close Combat. The helmed vampire stays out of trouble and gives his magic and commandment to the units in front of him. The master of the black arts vampire just nukes whereever needed. The BSB preferably goes into the unit of 12, giving it a US of 26 models (thus outnumbering almost always, if not, raise some ghouls). The small ghoul unit is meant to be enforced casters who summon more. The Dire Wolves flank as usually or go machine hunting (hence 3).
This time, you have 2 Varghulfs and a combaty Character, so when fighting against Heavy Armoured troops you don't need to punch so much. Put a varghulf on each side and the shredder vampire in the middle and you have everything covered, or go all on one side and obliterate his flanks and then roll them up with 2 Vhargulfs.

I hope this is of use to you 8)

Nice lists, Dark_Wolfen (do you play Confrontation? ), but your second list has a mistake... The Lord character has 2 Magic Armour items... He can have only one.

I know he has... but.. isn't it allowed since the shield is a common magic item? ??? Anyway, if not allowed, drop the shield and Walach and get the flayed Hauberk and perhaps a crown of the damned if you don't mind stupidity on a LD10 model (you shouldnt really ) and he has about the same survivability (if not safer). instead of 1+ AS and 5+ ward up front, he gets a 2+ AS and 4+ ward from all sides

And no I don't play Confrontation.. never even heard of it :-[ Why did you ask?

Thanks a lot Dark Wolfen I really appreiciate the help. Tonight when I get home from Work I'm going to look over the list in more detail to have a better understanding of what the Vampires loadouts are.

And yes I did think that the Black Knights were the Blood Knights my bad.

Ok so I love how much magic is in the first list, and the fact that their is two corspe carts but I absolutely love the 2 Vargulfs in the second list. The only unit I don;t care for is those Fell bats since the models themself are uglier than a decaying corpse. Is their anyway to combine the Magic of List one with beautiful twin Vargulfs of List Two?

Nope. Magic Armour is Magic Armour, it doesn't matter if it is common or army-specific. Sorry.

And I asked, because Wolfen are also from Confrontation. Check it out.
