Default Can an army take Mercenary Heroes and Lords as Rare?

Hey, fellows.

Last night, I was reading the DoW supplement and it said that "Empire, any Chaos, Dark Elves, Skaven, Vampire Counts, Khemri, Dwarfs and Lizardmen armies can field any unit from the Dogs of War army list"

So, if I wanted, I could include a Mercenary General (lord-level Character) on an Empire army of less than 2000pts? (It doesn't say anything about restrictions on the choices, depending on points. ???)

In the same way, could I make him the General? The wording on that matter says "A army must always include at least one CHARACTER (it doesn't say that it must be from THAT army book, as far as I know) to act as it general.

All this is simply a silly doubt that occurred to me yesterday. Thanks for your time.

Cheers.

Characters are not units and therefore not allowed to be taken as Dogs of War allies. Note that each of the sections is labelled 'Core Units', 'Special Units', and 'Rare Units' whilst characters are just 'Lords' and 'Heroes'.

Also note that any character taken as a Regiment of Renown (such as a Truthsayer, Dark Emissary or Asarnil the Dragonlord) may never be the general, as detailed in the 4th paragraph of the Regiments of Renown rules (normally available as the second .pdf file).
