Default "Rank filler" Question

Here goes nothing:
I hardly know anything about warhammer fantasy, but I like the models.

These "Rank filler" dioramas, are there some rules or convensions I should follow?
IE: not bigger then 2*2 bases, not bigger then 25% of the total models in the rank, not part of the "command" group?

The plan is to make some ranks and dioramas out of them Bretonnian pesants.
I got a bunch of them old onepice ones.

Not part of the command group would be wise.

Usually try to keep them to basic people. Dave at club (although he plays gobbo's) uses them in 5 wide, 1 deep usually, as it allows him to fit a whole rank in, and remove a whole rank should it be needed. I would usually say to use a ratio of about 1:2 - 1 diarama rank to every 2 normal ranks.

A rule of thumb I like to use when making rank fillers is to have at least as many normal models behind the filler as the filler subs-in for. So if I have a unit filler that occupies the space of 6 models, then I make sure my unit starts with 6 or more models in the ranks behind the filler. That way I avoid complications should my unit take heavy casualties.
