Default The Goatrider's Horde [Wight Army] -2K

As the original theme cannot be made due to the requirement to field a "Vampire" as General, I've tried to create a 2K list. Still not entirely happy with it, but it's as close as it will ever be.

Lords:

The Goatrider - 340pts.
Vampire Lord.
Bloodline Powers: Dread Knight [Lance, Heavy Armour, Shield and Barded Nightmare], Dark Acolyte [Level 3 Spellcaster]
Magic Items: Blood Drinker, Dispel Scroll, Cadaverous Curiass.
Leading first Black Knight unit

Heroes:

Battle Standard Bearer - 245pts.
Wight King on Barded Skeletal Steed.
Magic Items: Drakenhof Banner
Accompanying first Black Knight unit

Vampire - 178pts.
Bloodline Powers: Dark Acolyte [Level 2 Spellcaster], Lord of The Dead [+1 to Nehek Rolls, can increase Skellies beyond original size]
Magic Items: Dispel Scroll.
Attached to Skeleton Unit

Core:

Zombies - 80pts.
20 Zombies.

Zombies - 80pts.
20 Zombies.

Skeletons - 273pts
29 Skeletons with Musician and Standard Bearer.

Dire Wolves - 90pts.
10 Direwolves with Doomwolf.

Dire Wolves - 90pts.
10 Direwolves with Doomwolf.

Special:

Black Knights - 320pts.
10 Black Knights with Barding, Full Command.

Black Knights - 304pts.
10 Black Knights with Musician and Standard Bearer

Total: 2,000pts.

A fun list but I cant see it working with not being able to replenish ranks and not really getting enough attacks from Black Knights without a Vamp Character.

There are some armies it should run over though.

Goat?

Also, IIRC you need to have a model with "Vampire" rule to be the general, but I might be wrong.

I know, but I am just so pissed off that you now have to spam Vampires that this is just about the only list I can make that doesn't repulse me. I used to field 1 Vamp (if that), and double Level 2 Necros. Now you can't do that.

The Goatrider's Horde is a song by 3 Inches of Blood. It's on the Fire Up The Blades CD.

I cannot find any references to General requirements. The closest I can find is a line under Marching which says the unit must be 'within 6" of a Vampire (or 12" of the General).'

Nothing says you need a Vampire, or even a Spellcaster.

Page 88, under Choosing Characters:

Quote:
A vampire counts army must always include at least one vampire character to act as its general..
It is kind of the point - the new list is representing the Armies of the Vampires, with their pet Necromancers, not the army raised by a mighty Necromancer.

I think it was because they wanted to move away from it being a vast conglomerated army, and wanted to focus on the Counts.

Nothing to stop you using a Vamp as a counts as Necro though.

That is such a ****ing stupid suggestion it makes me weep.

If my problem was with the models do you think I'd be so pissed off? I do not want Vampires! I want Necromancers!

And I want nekomancers, cute catgirl vampires able to drown their opponents in a tide of kittens. ;D\

On a more serious note though, full command and big blocks of knights I've found generally do not mix well. One of the oldest axioms in military strategy is although cavalry charges can be devestating, without infantry to relieve them once their initial impetus wears off then they falter. I would split severa of the knight units into smaller ones, as this way you can use them to engage multiple units/flank more efficiently, plus smaller unit frontage would make it easier for them to wheel around.

I don't mean for models, just use those rules. Simple. You can even ignore the bloodline powers if you want, but there is nothing wrong with using the vampire rules to represent a Dark Acolyte Necromancer.

Otherwise, all you can do is house rule it, or moan at the book.
