I play Tau in 40k, and was thinking of jumping to Fantasy next. I want to collect an army that plays differently from the Tau, and was thinking of starting Vampires. Any suggestions? Are vamps too tough for a starter army?

well since tau are a really shooty army, Lizardmen would be the complete opposite
i dont collect vampire but i collect tomb kings which are very similar. the only problem i can see in vampire is that you must be willing to spend a lot of money to get a good playable army. you will need to get a lot of zombies and skeletons because necromancers can make new units so you need a lot of extra models that are not in your list. ;D hope this has helped

Tomb Kings and Vamp Counts aren't all that similar. Back on answer, Vampire counts most of them are fear causing and unbreakable good for you, you have many blood lines who are good at things blood dragons best fighters, Necharch (spelling?) are best Necromancers. So to answer your question Yes and no and that goes for every other army it matters about your playing style. |

Thanks.* I'm just going to play a practice game with the vamp army at GW and see how I like it.* Any strategic advice, though?
Also, is there a map of the Warhammer world, like the galaxy map for 40k?

Well, No need to start my own topic. Ill just piggy-back off this topic.
I was thinking of starting Orcs and Goblins. More definiteley just a Goblin army. I've always loved goblins, especially in MTG. I was planning on converting some guys to look like a siege gang commander or something. Just want to see everyones thoughts on Goblins are. |

Night Goblins FTW
Now, vampy-type counts... Where to start? Vampire counts have no non-magical ranged capabilities whatsoever, except for one magic item which can be taken only once. It = the lose. Also, their troops are poor and very expensive. Their real strength is in magic. In my opinion, vampire counts probably have just about the single best magic line in the game. They constantly summon up more and more undead to do their bidding, and can conceivably summon a new unit of zombies on an enemies flank, charge in the magic phase, and attack first and re-roll failed rolls to hit. Amazing, yes??? Just keep your general safe, if he dies the entire army will be gone in the next turn or 3.
