Default Dwarf Questions

1. Does the Shield give +2 to your armor save? Iron Breakers have 4+ saves and I've heard they have 2+, and I have no rulebook, so this seems like the right rule.

2. Thunderers seem awesome, so should I use a lot of them?

3. Are Crossbowmen, Miners, and Slayers any good?

4. Are the following runes good?

Grudge Rune
Master Rune of Gromril
Rune of Stone
Master Rune of Skalf Blackhammer
Rune of Slowness
Master Rune of Defense
Rune of Accuracy
Valiant Rune
Rune of Burning

5. What is the best artillery?

As it says in the rulebook. +1 to your armour save, an additional +1 when combined with a hand weapon. Hence the 2+ save.

Depends on your theme, whats in the rest of your army etc. They are pretty good yes, but you pay for it.

Yes to all 3.

All runes are good at what they are meant to do, just dont go overboard on how many you add to weapons etc.

'5. What is the best artillery?'

Nothing you'll find in the Dwarf army. But they do have lots of it and its still pretty good. Nothing beats a good old Cannon.

I want to have a huge line of ranged attackers (Thunderers, Crossbowmen, Cannons) protected by a line of Ironbreakers, Slayers, and Heavy Armor and Shield-wielding Dwarf Warriors. My hobby shop's owner says that ranged firepower is important for the dwarves as they are very slow, so that is my theme. The Dwarf Handgun also scares my friend. >

That all seems fair enough.

Not sure where the Slayers fit in though, you have missile power and heavily armoured units, the Slayers seem to be out of place. Just pack a few characters to deal with super hard enemy units.

A good mix of Crossbows and Hanguns is best. Then you get the extra range from the Crossbows which lets you pick off most enemy shooters without risk of getting shot back and to get shots in early on in the game. Then the Handguns do the work at shorter range.

Cannons can also do the job of killing tough enemy units rather than the Slayers.

You must make sure you dont go too missile heavy though, as Fantasy doesn't have the damage potential that 40K has. You cant shoot an army enough to destroy it. You really do need a fair few good solid combat squads to win the day as there will always be a fair few enemy squads getting stuck in with your lads.

Hmm. I hate the model and it takes up a rare slot which can be filled with much cooler things IMO. But.......It does really help the Dwarf style of play. It can get around the back of the enemy and kill their shooting squads which give syour Dwarfs control of the shooting side of the game. It can then slow up the advancing enemy by stopping them marching, this lets you weaken the enemy with more turns of fire-power.

It all depends on what you want them to do and your personal prefrences.

If not the Gyrocopter, what should I use for the rare unit? The Flame Cannon, Organ Gun, or Dogs of War? They seem to have a small range of rare units, and the Gyrocopter stuck out. Which is the best in overall?

It depends what you want really. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the "specialist" war machines of the Dwarves, so I tend to avoid the Rare slots altogether. However, a unit of Leadbelchers makes a nice addition to your force... there aren't many other shooting units that can chew up and spit out enemy regiments in hand to hand!

What's the best Hero or Lord? The Lord's stats impress me, but I really like the Anvil of Doom the Runelord has. Or should I use one of the special characters?
