Default new to tyranids and i have no clue what to get

I recently played warhammer 40k again and i want a new army and i chose tyranids. The only problem i have is that I don`t know anything about tyranids. What would be a great army for 1000pt? I like the broodlord and the genestealers because of their attacks so im a melee guy, and im willing to make any army and tactics that you guys would suggest . Thanks

I don't really know much about tyranids, but here's a list that was posted a while back in this forum:

HQ:
1 Broodlord @ 233 Pts
Feeder Tendrils; Rending Claws; Scything Talons; Synapse Creature
10 Genestealers
Rending Claws

1 Hive Tyrant @ 177 Pts
Enhanced Senses +1 BS; Extended Carapace +1 Save; Toxin Sacs +1 St; Lash Whip & Bonesword; Venom Cannon; Synapse Creature; The Horror

Elite:
1 Lictor @ 80 Pts
Feeder Tendrils; Flesh Hooks; Rending Claws; Scything Talons

2 Warriors @ 91 Pts
Enhanced Senses +1 BS; Scything Talons (x1); Deathspitter; Synapse Creature
1 Warriors
Enhanced Senses +1 BS; Scything Talons (x1); Venom Cannon; Synapse Creature

Troops:
8 Gaunt Brood @ 80 Pts
Devourer; Without Number

15 Gaunt Brood @ 135 Pts
Fleshborer; Without Number

Heavy Support:
1 Carnifex @ 204 Pts
Adrenal Glands +1 In; Bonded Exoskeleton; Extended Carapace +1 Save; Reinforced Chitin; Tail Weapon - Scythe; Tusked; Crushing Claws; Scything Talons (x1)

Total Roster Cost: 1000

That has both of the units that you said you liked in, and is a melee based army, though you could make the warriors more dangerous up close by changing their wargear a bit.

I can see the units composition, but i think i should swarm with broodlords and genestealers because of the WS and the initiative that they have so i would take out 1 unit of hormagaunts to use.I would probably take out any unit to get another carniflex because of its awesomeness. Sorry if i have to ask this but would a trygon be better than the carniflex (im just asking probably going to use it too)

No, the trouble with Trygons are that you can't use them in games unless they're Apocalypse, or you have your opponents consent. This means that when you are playing competitively, that you can't use them.

Just dug out my tyranid codex...

The trouble with having a second broodlord instead of a hive tyrant is that you lose the shear power of a hive tyrant, when you have a hive tyrant working with a melee carnifex, together they have the power to take out any tank, and any squad of infantry (avoid Marneus Calgar or Abaddon though, they will rip you apart). By having to many broodlords, you lose support for your carnifex.

I would change the list to look a bit more like this:

1 Broodlord 90 pts
Extended carapace
Toxin Sacs
This gives you a very powerful melee machine, who will easily beat almost any other nameless hero in combat

Hive Tyrant 131pts
Adrenal Glands +1 I
Adrenal Glands +1 WS
Extended Carapace (2+ save)
Toxin Sacs +1 S
Scything Talons
Scything Talons
6 Strength 6 attacks on the charge, who can argue with that?

10 Genestealers 200 pts
Scything Talons

10 Genestealers 200pts
scything talons
50 attacks per squad on the charge

Carnifex 159 pts
Crushing Claws
Scything Talons
Adrenal Glands +I
Adrenal Glands +WS
Toxin Sacs +S
Extended Carapace (2+ armour save)
Your tank buster, on the charge, this bad boy gets a minimum of 3 attacks, and a maximum of 8 attacks at strength 10!

You're left with 220 points to spend on more troops, a bit of shooting, some tyrant guard, whatever you want and even that carnifex that you want.

While that list does look good Durin, it is from the previous edition codex and is now invalid.

soon_j,
For a stealer heavy 1000 pt lit I'd probably go with.

HQ
Tyranid Prime :120 points
Bone sword and lashwip
Death spitter
Adrenal glands
Regeneration

Elites
2 Hive guard :100 points
2 Zoanthropes :160 points
With Mycetic Spore

Troops
7 Genesteals + 1 Broodlord :182 points
All with adrenal glands

7 Genesteals + 1 Broodlord :182 points
All with adrenal glands

4 Warriors :180 points
Adrenal Glands
Dual2 Boneswords and Devourers

This comes too 924 points, feel free to spend the rest on more Genestealers, or an extra warrior and some more upgrades. Personally I'd go with a unit of 15 gaunts to act as screen for the Warriors and to hold objectives (if they're still alive). as well as boosting your numbers.
Alternatively you could drop The Hive Guard or Zoanthropes and get a Carnifex or Trygon (Which is int he codex so you don't need opponents permission to field one). To provide some melee anti tank.

Basic idea is that the Prime joins the Warriors to form your main hammer unit, throw these at things like Terminators or anything else that would get unstuck by large numbers of power weapon attacks (watch out for Thunder hammers though) I find the devourers are more worth it than scything talons for the ability to shoot before assaulting
Adrenal Glands gives all your melee stuff Furious Charge. The hive Guard and Zoanthropes are for tank hunting (the Zoanthropes are in a Spore because the warp lance has a short range so deep striking them in means they're more likely to reach what ever you want taken out), Hive guard are bet for light armour (Transports =, Dreadnought ect) While you should use the Zoanthropes on anything with AV 13+.

If you really like genestealers and Broodlords you could model the Warriors and Prime so the resemble Broodlords (if you want to really do this drop their guns in favour of scything talons)

Are these the 4th edition rules? A Broodlord is now a Genestealer upgrade and Warriors are troops now.

For starters, I would say get a Battleforce and a Hive Tyrant so you would be able to atleast have a legal army.

Are you looking to play an army with a bunch of little bugs? Or an army that has a lot of mosteros creatures? If you go with little bugs, then maybe 2 Battleforces. If the army with a lot of monsterous creatures, I'd go with a couple Trygons, a few Carnifexes, and some Tervigons.
