Tyranids are probably the only army in 40K that I haven't tried my hand at. I got hold of the new Nid Codex today so I thought I'd make a list and see how it goes.

Now, I quite like Nid shooting so have tried to incorporate quite a bit of it into my army (even my Orks are shooty Orks).

Deathspitter,
Rending Claws,
Enhanced Senses.

6 Tyranid Warriors:
Rending Claws,
Scything Talons,
Toxin Sacs,
Bio-plasma.

[size=12pt]Troops[/size]

15 Gaunts:
Spinefists.

15 Gaunts:
Fleshborers.

15 Hormogaunts:

3 Raveners:
Scything Talons,
Rending Claws.

[size=12pt]Heavy Support[/size]

Carnifex:
Enhanced Senses,
Twin-linked Devourer,
Twin-linked Devourer.

Total : 1000 points

The Dakka Fex and HQ would advance whilst laying down fire-power and they can also deal some damage in combat (all can also still deal with armour quite well), the Gaunts will lend support to this.

The Hormogaunts and Raveners will be my first wave and can engage anything that will be able to really cut the rest of the force down from range.

The big Warrior brood will be my second wave of close combat, once these are in combat my fire-power elements will then join the fray to support where needed.

So, what do you think?, Any advice and comments?.

You have no real anti-tank that I can see. Hammerheads and such aren't incredibly rare in 1000 points and they (or any other heavy tank) will be untouchable.

Very true, perhaps a Venom Cannon in the HQ brood.

I can't see a way of putting much more anti-tank without compromising the list though. It is skimmer tanks that worry me as I have a monstrous creature and Rending Claws that can deal with regular tanks (not very reliable I know but at least it's something).

Shouldn't your Carnifex take out skimmers and whatnot with his Devourers? An effective range of 24, with S6, as well as 8 shots is nothing to sneeze at.

Hopefully your Raveners should be able to catch and whomp on any things like Hammerheads.

Apart from that, I'd give it a playtest or two (proxy battles, you don't want to waste a whole heap of money). That's the best way I find. Your army operates upon the same principles as mine, and as I haven't actually battled with that yet, I couldn't tell you much else. However, great minds think alike.... ;D

Yes the Fex would be able to deal with most skimmers.

Although If I do test it and come unstuck against Tau/Eldar because of the lack of skimmer busting guns I could:

As I don't want a Zoanthrope, I just don't like the models or the idea of them, plus they are rare so having some in a 1000 Point army would be a little off. Drop 1 Ravener, then split the squad up and have 1 supporting a Hormogaunt brood each.

With those extra points I could add a Warrior to my HQ brood:

Warrior:
Enhanced Senses,
Toxin Sacs,
Venom Cannon,
Lash Whip,
Symbiote Rippers.

So, this, or the original list?

I think he would have to be his own HQ slot. As I recall warriors within a brood can have different weapons but I don't think that applies to biomorphs.

It would have to be another HQ choice for me then. If I take it rather than the original list that is.

You can also divvy up all of the Raveners into their own broods. Which would be better and far more flexible IMO. Plus I like the current list you have - looks very effective.

Pfft. Don't worry, we created your list with a limited amount of resources - ie. the models you have.
