When nids take there leadship test for not being near a synapse nid and lose(while in combat) can you sweeping advance them?

your question is a little confusing:
I assume you mean,

If a tyranid unit that is out of synapse range loses an assault, are they vulnerable to sweeping advance?

the answer is yes. Tyranids outside of synapse range follow the basic morale rules. All that synapse really does for them in assault is make them fearless and immune to instant death.

If you are talking about testing for Instinctive Behavior, they do not test for IB if they are already locked in close combat, only units outside Synapse, non-fearless, not already in combat, and not falling back test for IB if you want to move them for any reason.

If you are talking about non-fearless units locked in combat who lose that combat, if they fail their leadership check, and then fail the initiative roll off, then yes you can sweeping advance them.

An in play example would be.

A way you can use this info tactically. Is if there are gaunts near some warriors and you shoot the warriors to death. Then the gaunts will be out of synapse. Out of synapse the gaunts get assaulted by lets say striking scorpions. The striking scorpions win combat and now the gaunts have to take a leadership test. Then the gaunts fail the leadership test. Now you get to roll for sweeping advance.

The point is gaunts are quite easy to kill out of synapse with their weak leadership.
