Default Nidzilla, Effective or not?

Unfortunately this will be my last year playing 40k for some while, other things are demanding attention and life is moving on.

Now before I rap it all up, I would like to go to one more tournament one of the biggest in Australia, so I'm looking for an army with a competitive edge relatively cheap to buy, not over engulfed in models and easy to paint. The Nidzilla was the first thing that popped into my head.

The tournament will be 1750 and I have come to ask if Nidzilla still has a competitive edge, and if it is still viable for a tournament army. I'm happy to make sacrifices for more troop choices over monstrous creature's, so tell me is it legitimate.

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK still is awesome if you spam MC in low points games.
you're still on the right track.

But what are your other options ?
Any other armies or playlists that you are well versed or comfortable with ?

Well I was very set with Nidzilla, I love the Carnifex model as it's all plastic, and to field 6 of the most terrifying monstrous creature's in one scene would be fantastic.

So thanks for the input but I'm really looking for some serious notes and thoughts on Nidzilla in 5th edition.

Nidzilla is still viable, the only downside comes when it's time to control objectives. Your troop count is very low...especially if you take ripper swarm who cannot control objectives.

So in 2 out of 3 scenario you start with a slight disadvantage...then again you can always go for a draw, by contesting the objective or killing your opponents troops.

Boneguard explained it well. You're going to have trouble in objective games if the enemy plays keep away and preserves forces, but if you can kill all the enemy then they can't take objectives either, can they?

I find Nidzilla armies easy to pwn!!!! Cause they aren't really that tough when you shoot enough plasma at them! Of course you will need to bring enough sacrifical units yourself to slow them down.

You should definetly bring some more gaunts, I also think without numbers is abit pointless. Cause in a few games I purposely ignored his wON gaunts till turn 4 to shoot!!!

Well here is a sample army list.

It still has a bulk of MC's, but not so many upgrades spent on them. I prefer playing shooty nids so as you can tell this is a very shooty army list.

HQ
Hive Tyrant
-TL Devourers x2
-Enhanced senses
-Venom sac

3 Zoanthropes ' I was also woried about Synapse so I decided on some Zoanthropes to ensure the web.
-Warp Blast
-Synapse

1691pts

I still have 59 points. Any Idea where these should be allocated would be great.

Actually, you have more, the most gaunts that you can have in a brood is 32 not 36. SO, I would give all of your Carnifexes (in HS) the extra wound and drop the Extended Carapace, as Sniperfexes will be eating Lascannons not bolters. Then buy your Devilrants some Tyrant Guard or at least Warpfield, you need the protection. Heck, you could drop tons of gaunts to get whatever dodads you want.

I would highly suggest you drop some of those gaunt broods and make a couple of broods of 16 gaunts + without number. Allowing you not to worry about your troops too much and focus those monstrous creatures on damaging the enemy rather than protecting your troops.

This will also allow you to rush gaunts in to stop or at least slow down those units that can take out monstrous creatures down easily. Like Terminators, Nobz, Crisis Suits with plasma rifles etc etc. Gaunts will be your best friend locking those down while all your MCs focus on other targets.

And yeah remember max brood size is 32. But just use a bunch of squads of 16 and you'll be ok. You can also do squads of 24 + without number. But try to have at least 3 troop choices that will allow you to play well in all scenarios.

Why not replace some of those gaunts with genestealers? They don't need synapse.
