Default CC or Ranged Fexes in 5th?

So I was looking at the rules on glancing hits and thinking about my sniper fex, when I realized something. Now that a carnifex can run would a CC carnifex be a viable option? I always thought they were just good for a fire magnet. But now I'm rethinking that. What's your guy's opinion?

Thanks,
-RS

They aren't a fire magnet when 55 gaunts are running ahead of it...

Gaunts are so much faster that they always end up getting engaged first. I use my CC fex to work it's way behind cover around my flank to protect it and to get closer to attack and also to try to get my enemy to commit more than he needs to stop it. The Carnifex isn't the cornerstone of the army, gaunts are. Fexes work great as distractions. Albeit really badass distractions.

Well I think I should have specified my problem a little more. I need anti-tank, I run now thropes and no stealers. Will a CC fex be good enough for anit tank? I also run a VC ST flyrant so thats good for low armor values, and my other at would be some raveners, cc warriors (leaping of course) and 2 lictors. So what do you guys think? Do I have enough at, or do I need sniper fexes?

3 CC fexes running around the board would be enough AT for anyone. Almost every vehicle in the game has rear armor 10, so even Hormagaunts can be effective AT. I rely on them for more AT than I do a Carnifex.

But what about a mechanized list? Goodluck killing a skimmer in CC, let alone get to it in CC.

Skimmers have low enough armor that your normal shooty units can take care of them. Also, most armies don't have enough skimmers to be a problem.

Mech Tau, Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Orks with lots of vehicles (KOS) are all common armies I face at my GW store and quite frankly, warriors with deathspitters and my flyrant aren't enough in my opinion. But I don't know, does anyone have any experience running against these types of armies with CC fexes?

DE... common? Haha good one.

You don't have to have all of your fex's either shooty or CC. Have a mix of them.

Ewww I'm concrete sequencial and OCD, making two units have different biomorphs.... well I just threw up in my mouth thinking about it. Sadly I agree its a good idea. And btw, we have 4 DE players at my store :P.

Thanks for the advice, I have playtesting to do!

Use mixed fexes.

Venom Cannon w/Talons + Enhanced Senses

some good biomorphs to add are

Reinforced Chitin
Adrenal Glands (W)
Toxic Miasma
Bonded Exoskeleton

Chitin is the best defensive biomorph, followed by exoskeleton.

the glands and miasma are for both offensive and defense to make your cc attacks count!.
