necrons can't really kill your units in CC, so a good swarm will do good against them
On the other side, necrons wound on 6+, so carnifexes with T7 aren't safe for warriors...euhm...well I'd say for tyranid sake get into CC asap...hormogaunts slaughter warriors

Yeah, CC is your friend. Necrons are hard as hell to try and take down, so do it systematically. Try to destroy entire squads at a time to deny will be back rolls as well. Secondly, a Lord with the Veil of Darkness or a Monolith can both teleport troops out of combat, which is VERY frustrating. Lots and lots and lots of gaunts should do the trick. If their is a monolith, you're hit pretty badly.... A Carnifex in CC may have a decent chance of carving it up, some focussed warp blasts from the zoanthropes might have a chance too. But really, your big deal is to engage the Necrons in close combat. If you have access to one, check out the Necron codex to learn more about their units and learn which ones to avoid/kill first.

As for your weaknesses against Necrons, they are ridiculously hard to kill so get used to watching your attacks killing only a few Necrons and then having half of them reappear next turn anyways. It's not fun. Shooting wise they will wound your Monstrous creatures on a six regardless because of their weird gauss rules, but not in close combat.

As Sjoerd said, hormagaunts are your friends. The distance they can close to close combat is astounding. Lictors may help engage units as well.

The biggest problem Necron players face against a Tyranid swarm is the 2+ armor save our Monstrous Creatures can get. They have one AP2 weapon in their arsenal, and many Necron players don't take it.

Probably the single largest threat is a Winged Tyrant. He is fast, has a good amount of wounds at a high toughness, and capable of a 2+ armor save.

With the addition of the "run" rule to 5th Edition, cheap Melee Fexes would also be a great alternative.

Watch out for any Monoliths. They'll obliterate swarms, as I believe they inflict D6 hits on any units within a certain distance. That's fairly rough.

Monoliths have numerous special rules (extra WBB rolls, blast templates, taking a unit out of CC). It's important to bear in mind that only one of these abilities can be used per turn and that the extra WBB and CC remover only affect one squad. Splitting shots halves the units that can use these abilities!

I'd advocate getting Sniperfexs and a Shooting Flyrant, then glance the monolith to death while advancing. They should also be targeting any Destroyers.

If you can't take down the monolith quickly, spread your shots about to as many squads as possible. Most people agree that taking down whole squads of Necrons is the best way to deal with them. I will only agree with this if there is no squad of the same type nearby. If there's one nearby, split fire and force Morale Checks(even with the Necrons Ld, they'll occasionally run off the board, and more morale checks means more breaking, leading to running off the board, leading to less WBB! ;D).

Immortals can pump out a lot of shots at a good strength. A few weeks back, they downed a Carnifex through massed fire. Tie them up with GeneStealers or gaunts( the lads who are small enough to take an advantage of cover).

The backbone of any Necron List are the Necron Lords. Since they give WBB, you'll want to sort him out pronto. Me, I'd advise using either a good amount of GeneStealers. They'll rend him to death before he strikes back and since he's an IC, you can single him out for all that lovely rending.

Focus your attacks on squads of the same units. If there are two squads of Immortals beside each other, unload on both of them. If you can down them both, neither of them get their WBB rolls.

Apart from that, just bum rush them with Hormagaunts or GeneStealers. No gauss rule equivalent in CC ;D.

Blooming monoliths take so much of a pounding... and you have to slogg your slow assault fex across the table in order to start hitting it.
I haven't had much luck killing them so I try to ignore monoliths and get the phase out by killing warriors quickly instead.
Then you can get back to consuming some adversary which is more tasty and fleshy

You counter them with hormogaunts, genestealers and monstrous creatures.... Theres a reason that nids are one of the best close combat armies.

Nononononono.... we're just being positive. Crons will give you a run for your money, it took me a long time (nearly two years of gaming with the same guy who played crons) to understand how they worked and how to effectively fight them. Don't expect to win, but learn from the game a figure out what you need to to win next time. It's a tough fight.

Wraiths, pariahs, and flayed ones are okay in close combat.... but that's about it. They aren't any crazy powerful units like genestealers or bloodletters, especially for how expensive they are. Just overwhelm them.

Again, I recommend swarm armies to really try to outnumber the Necrons, abuse their lack of models with our ability to take so damn many
