Hello fellow Nid' players, I need help with my Hive Tyrant. In most battles I hide my Tyrant and let my minions do all the battle and then when my enemy lowers their guard my Tyrant goes for the kill and finish them off without a sweat.

But....the bad thing is that deep strikers can attack my covered, unawared Hive Tyrant (e.g raptors, oblitorators, flayed ones etc.)
and my Tyrant won't be able to take them on (hopefully he can :P)

So I'm asking is what will be good to protect a Tyrant sitting there having a cup of tea waiting for the enemies loosing their brave men?

My idea is some Lictors and some Ravangers or even some Tyrant Guards something good in CC to protect and help the Tyrant, but if i purposely hide my Tyrant with some Lictors, Ravangers etc with him, should I give my Tyrant all CC weapons ( Scything talons, lash whip and bone sword).

The question is a lot easier to address if we know what kind of army you normally play and what kind of Tyrant you use in your lists.

Exactly. If your running a CC winged tyrant, you want to get in combat by turn two. If it's ranged, then put it in covere, with extended carapace and blast away. But remember, shooty tyrants are often left behind by the synapse needing units.

Whatever you do with your Tyrant, I would not let it sit back.* At T6 and the ability to give a 2+ save, you are looking at a durable unit that can really cause grief for an opponent.

If you are looking for protection, that is what Tyrant guard is there for. Even with 2, that is a tough nut to crack. Leave the Lictors to hit behind enemy lines where they are meant for. I suppose if you were in trouble around your Tyrant, having your Lictors come in there to asssit would work for you.

All in all, let the Tyrant do what it is supposed to do: Lead the swarm.

Yeah, thats what i did on the recent battle I had with the Tau, and I won much quicker :P

Liar* >, it was a 400pt battle with barely any cover, and he took out my crisis suits with his venom cannon from long range, then came in and mopped up my kroot. (His gaunts took out my firewarriors).

Using a Tyrant at 400 points is like swatting flies with a sledgehammer. It works but there are more refined way to swat the fly...

For the Tau player, how did the Tyrant take your crisis suits down? What happened to JSJ?

Impzilla, I would look at getting a solid unit of Warriors for your HQ in smaller games. I make a rule not to take a Tyrant in games <750.

No one likes to be branded a powergamer.

I say again, barely any cover, not enough to fully cover my suits. And anyway, He only has a Tyrant and the tyranids out of the battle for macragge box set.

Ah, that is too bad...

Impzilla, I would look at expanding your swarm ASAP before the players that you do have around you stop playing with you because they are tired of facing a Tyrant @ 400 points.

I would recommend getting a unit of Warriors as a viable HQ for smaller games. If you can afford it, the Battleforce is perfect for starting players. If you are looking for cheaper way to expand the swarm, I would recommend another Macragge set if you can split it with a marine player. If that is not an option, Battlewagon bits it a great place to pick those up. The other thing is to keep your eyes on E-bay for good deals.
