Default 1000 Point List, Advice Greatly Appreciated

Hello!

This is my first list after a short 40k break Ive been on, due to work. I havent had to many games with the new codex, but I do like to make lists in my spare time for fun. Lately All I have been doing is painting my Tyranids, having no time to go down to the local hobby shop to play.

So, here is my new 1000 point list that looks to me like great fun to play, any advice or critiquing would be appreciated!!

Hq
Hive Tyrant 255
Last Whip & Bonesword, Twin-Link Devourer /w Brainleech Worms, Hive Commander, Winged

Elite
Zoanthrope 60
Zoanthrope 60

Troop
Tyranid Warrior Brood 90
x3 Warriors, Scything Talons, Rending Claws

Hormagaunt Brood 96
x16 Hormagaunts
Hormagaunt Brood 96
x16 Hormagaunts

Fast Attack
Ravener Brood 105
x3 Raveners, Scything Talons, Rending Claws

Heavy Support
Trygon Prime 240

Total - 1002

The main strategy is a basic Reserve army. I dont think I have to explain much that being said ;D. I love playing with Raveners. They are my favorite model, and just seem nasty. The only thing I was really thinking, was changing the expensive Hq. Although the wings make him sure a lot more effective, and Id hate to change him out. Especially having the +1 to reserve rolls.

The other controversy was the warriors. I wasnt sure how effective they would be in a brood of 3, but with rending and more than a few attacks, I think 3 can still work out, especially in only 1000 pts.

All advice is greatly appreciated!!! ;D ;D

welcome back to the game.

i like the look of this army, i feel its pretty balanced.

the one thing i'd consider changing is your HQ, at 1000 points, having 25% of your points tied up in your HQ is far too much in my opinion. i'd reccomend going for a tyranid prime for around 90 points, then use the spare points for an extra warrior and 2 hive guard, strengthens the warrior brood in numbers to 4, the prime boosts all their stats and hive guard are great for anti tank to aid the zoanthropes.

Love trygon primes, very nasty unit.

for me wariors work best in brods of 5 or more, so maybe downgrade to a normal trygon and make it a 5 warrior brood. add the prime for boosted stats and you've got one evil unit.

Mixer's got some good advice there. Warriors, despite their cool stats are quite easy to smash with a metla gun or power fist, and even without getting killed, they don't have the damage output at that small a brood. The best setup for Warriors is probably 5 with LW/BS and either scytals (killier) or devs (shootier, effective when facing a more mobile opponent). Always use them as a follow up, the horms can get into CC faster, then the Warriors can finish them off without having to worry about getting shot.

Raveners are also better in a group of 5 or six, I'd drop the Prime upgrade just to get more bodies.

Finally, Raveners are much better when they are on the board from the start, Deep Striking can result in misshaps and if they dont' they just stand around for a turn and get shot. I'd drop Hive Commander. If you want another body you can drop the Devouerers too, but going for a Prime will give you more options. If you do so, I'd get some Hive Guard and then more Warriors or Raverners.

I think the mentality was that one could use the trygon tunnel to negate those potentially nasty mishaps? Also, there are only 3 units that are going to take advantage of hive commander. But at 1000 I guess that is a lot.

Never used Raveners, but like mentioned a decent balanced list with a bit of focus on that Tyrant.

Thanks for all of the great advice!!

So far I have made a few tweeks, but I do not have a final copy written yet to post over my current list. But, what I have decided to do, is change the Tyrant into a Prime with a Pair of Boneswords.
With the extra points I am going to add 2 to the Ravener Brood, and 2 Hive Guards for some extra firepower to run with the Zoanthropes. The Raveners are going to travel through the Trygons tunnel. Also, I would prefer keeping the Trygon a prime. One main reason, is for that nice extra Synapse for any Tyranids running through the tunnel. Depending on the set up, I may run the Hormagaunts through as well.

Any extra thoughts or advice before I remake my final list? Again, thanks so much in advance for the advice!!! ;D ;D

i take it when you say tyrant guard you actually meant hive guard for zoan support, tyrant guard don't have weapons, they're just big living blockers for HQ's.

Without seeing the list i can't make any definate comments but based on what you've already written and the changes your planning to make it sounds good. 1 thing i'd consider would be, if it's possible points wise, to give the zoans a mycetic spore. perhaps.
