This is all cut/pasted from my LGS forum.
_______________________________ Alright, so after looking through the codex a bit here are some fun lists that I've come up with using the new rules. Standard 2,000 points 265 - Hive Tyrant, Wings, 2x Scything Talons, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Hive Commander, Adrenal Glands 160 Parasite of Mortrex 150 3x Hiveguard 180 3x Zoanthropes 130 Doom of Malantai, Spore 50 10x Termagants 50 10x Termagants 200 13x Genestealers, 1x Broodlord 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 225 Trygon, Regeneration 200 Trygon Total: 2,000 This is essentially an upgraded version of the list I ran against hyra's Mech Chaos on Friday. I think it's pretty impressive, 5 Monstrous Creatures (granted only 3 are paticularly scary), a strong brood of Genestealers arriving via outflanking, a nasty shooting base from the Zoey's/Hive Guard, solid troops (termagants are okay by themselves, but with the fact that I'm pumping out another lot of them via the Tervigons, and that they gain a ton of buffs from the Tervigons, makes them very potent. Then I tossed in some fun units, the Doom of Malan'tai (has the potential to be VERY potent/fun against infantry armies, his psychic ability is nasty) and the Parasite of Mortrex (I love his Ripper ability. Very easy to kill, and only mildly competent in combat... the hardest part with this guy is finding a place to hide him where he can do some damage). Competitive, but still including some fun units. Standard 1500 255 - Hive Tyrant, Wings, 2x Scything Talons, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Hive Commander 100 Tyranid Prime, Regeneration, Boneswords 150 3x Hiveguard 180 3x Zoanthropes 130 Doom of Malantai, Spore 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 50 10x Termagants 50 10x Termagants 225 Trygon, Regeneration Total: 1500 Same concept as the above, but scaled down to be more manageable for 1500 point games. I'm sorry, did I break your game...? 240 - Hive Tyrant, Wings, 2x Scything Talons, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Adrenal Glands 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 120 2x Zoanthropes 180 3x Zoanthropes 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 50 10x Termagants 195 Tervigon, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst 50 10x Termagants 225 Trygon, Regeneration 225 Trygon, Regeneration 225 Trygon, Regeneration A stupid amount of Monstrous Creatures. Don't worry, I can't (and wouldn't) actually field this. But it's quite potent, considering that three Tervigons is going to spit out a VERY large number of gaunts very quickly. I could also work to turn the winged Tyrant into a walking one with some Tyrant Guard. _________________________________ Just wanted to see what your guys' thoughts were. The first two lists are going to be the primary ones I use at my LGS, as of now. The last one was for shits and giggles :P What would you guys change, and why? I've included my really expensive Flyrant in all these lists as it's a great model and I like using it, but I'm not sure if I'd be better off dropping it for a cheap Tyranid Prime (with Boneswords and Regen, comes out to 100 points) which leaves me an extra 150 points to spend, which may be a better option. Generally when I build lists I go for competitive/fluffy. That's why I'm using some weirder models (Parasite, Doom) but still keep a solid base (Trygon, Tervigons...). I'm concerned that I really need to use multiple Trygons to get the most out of them (2-3), but those weigh in at 700 odd points... which is a lot, when a bare troops is going to run me another 500 (2x gaunts/2x Tervigons). Plus I don't want to be accused of uber cheese, or buy 3 $50 models :P |

Well, the main problem I see here is the lack of troops choices. That will be a major problem for you in objective based games at the very least. The Tyrant is nice and shint, but I doubt he's good enough to make that many points back in a game. I'd suggest dropping him for the Tyranid Prime and getting more gaunts/stealers to bulk up your troops choices.
I'll take a more detailed look at these lists soon and get back to your with more avice hopefully. Should relly be getting my tax work done. :P Mkoll.

Really, a lack of troops? I have four scoring units base, between 2 termagants and the 2 tervigons. And then the tervigons can pump out even more Termagants... even if each tervigon only gets two more broods of gaunts out, that's still a total of 8 scoring units. I thought I was okay there.
Yeah, I'm rethinking the Flyrant... he's just soooo damn expensive. In the 1500 point game I played with him he was really useful in bouncing around combats and killing things, but I could also see him sucking a lot. A cheap Tyranid Prime would leave me with an extra 150 points, which could go torwards a medium sized brood of Stealers instead. |

Apologies, I'd forgotten that the Tervigon coul be a Troops choice with a unit of termagants. I should really be looking at the codex when commenting. :P Even so, while those Tervigons are tough, they don't really pack much of a punch. They amplify your gaunts, but frankly your gaunts probably won't last long anyway, they are only 10 man units. I'd consider some Warriors or Genesealers to be honest, just to give your opponent something else to have to think about. Especially now that 'Stealers have Infiltrate back.
![]() The Stealers and prime option would probably wok out better than the Tyrant to be honest. The Stealers will force your opponent to think about targets more carfully while the Prime is almost as durable anyway. Other than that I quite like the first 2 lists to be honest. though it may be worth considering a Trygon Prime rather than a Trygon with Regeneration. Probably more wothwhile all told.
