I'm a tau player myself, but I'm moving into my second army. This is my first tyranid list, so I'm looking for pointers.
I this list would definitely give my tau a difficult time. My plan would be for the warriors to escort the big creatures as much as possible, protecting them from insta-death. The tyrant can fly ahead with the gaunts when they are ready to make their assault. Thoughts, Ideas? HQ: Hive Tyrant Adrenal Glande +I, Adrenal Glande +WS, Bio Plasma, Flesh Hooks, Toxin Sacks +1 St, Winged, Scything Talons X 2, Warp Field 209 Troops: Hormogaunts X 16 160 Hormogaunts X 16 160 Gaunt X 16 (spinefists) 80 Gaunt X 16 (spinefists) 80 Elite: Warrior X 3 Enhanced Sense +1 BS, Scything Talons, Deathspitter 84 Warrior X 3 Enhanced Sense +1 BS, Scything Talons, Deathspitter 84 Heavy Support: Carnifex Adrenal Glands +I, Adrenal Glands +WS, Flesh Hooks, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacks +1S, Crushing Claws, Scything Talons 143 |

You cant instadeath the big monsters unless you have S12 (you dont) or S14 (You really dont) OR S16 (I promise.... you dont
Flying warriors and gaunts gaunts gaunts gaunts gaunts gaunts. and fleet their sorry asses to certain victory MWAHAHAH! HT needs that 2+ armor and 6+ invul thingy. Some hive mind power. And is it just me, or do only 2 of your 3 warriors have guns? Other than those things i'd say its a solid list.

Whoops, I left the warp field off the tyrant. It was supposed to be on there. All the warriors have deathspitters and talons. |

Ok, just a few things I notice....
HQ: Hive Tyrant Adrenal Glande +I, Adrenal Glande +WS, Bio Plasma, Flesh Hooks, Toxin Sacks +1 St, Winged, Scything Talons X 2, Warp Field 209 I'd honestly drop the flesh hooks and bioplasma and replace warp field for warp blast. Adds some anti-heavy-tank, and popping landraiders then charging the juicies inside is always fun.... I also think it may become isolated, so maybe try and get something like ravenors or lictors for some support.... Troops: Hormogaunts X 16 160 Hormogaunts X 16 160 I honestly find hormogaunts too weak for their points.... A few good bolter rounds or a whirlwind will just eliminate them. Cheaper guants en masse would serve better.... Gaunt X 16 (spinefists) 80 Gaunt X 16 (spinefists) 80 Elite: Warrior X 3 Enhanced Sense +1 BS, Scything Talons, Deathspitter 84 Warrior X 3 Enhanced Sense +1 BS, Scything Talons, Deathspitter 84 I'd try and specialise these squads more, have one for shooting, the other for assault. Try one squads with rending claws, scything talons, +1 WS, and the other with more long ranged abilities. By multi-purposing them they are more likely to be wasting your points with abilities you can't use. Heavy Support: Carnifex Adrenal Glands +I, Adrenal Glands +WS, Flesh Hooks, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacks +1S, Crushing Claws, Scything Talons 143 I think the flesh hooks, toxic miasma and toxin sacks aren't needed.... maybe even the adrenal glands, both kinds.... Flesh hooks mean you strike in initiative order against squads in cover... so you strike last, Miasma takes WS down, so you hit on 3's, or against tougher things.... 4 still.... S9 can still wound most things as easily as S10... 2+ for most things, and against vehicles you still get 2D6 to add to the 9, giving an average of 16... Most things will still strike quicker than you, so the initiative bonus isnt really needed, and You wills till hit most things on 4+ too.... Try boosting toughness and wounds, so he is a little more survivable.... Hope I was of help.... |

I set up a mock game using V40k with my original Nid list and my 1,000 pt tau army. The nids got completely slaughtered. I'm going to play around a bit more and try to take some of the suggestions from the post above.
