1200 point game
xposted on The Tyranid Hive
Okay guys. I have a game coming up in a week, possibly 2 weeks, and I want to be as prepared as possible. I'm tired of a 0 for 4 batting average - I really want to win this.
Several points: 1st: I'm facing Chaos Space Marines (Primarily Slaanesh, maybe some Khorne in there too, but I don't know 100% for certain)
2nd: I've got a few games under my belt, so I know what he'll probably do...and he probably knows what I'll do. We know each other pretty well, so I'm hoping by changing my strategy a little bit, I can shake him up a little.
3rd: He's said that he doesn't care what the terrain and mission are, he'll take whatever I throw at him. So, I choose the rules of engagement.
So, a quick overview of our previous games (for use to think of how I might change my tactics to shake him up)
First game: Probably about 300-points, but basically a brood of Warriors, a brood of Gaunts, and a brood of Hormagaunts against a Chaos Lord and two squads of Khorn Berzerkers, one with the Daemonic Flight gift. (We were basically guessing at the rules for this game, really - nobody had the rules OR the codexes.) He held his flyers in reserve, and sent his Chaos Lord and Berzerkers in piecemeal (we were choosing to ignore Unit Coherency for this game). I tore those two apart, but then his flying Khorne Berzerkers came in and tore my Synapse apart, and from there the rest of my forces broke. Result: I lost.
Second game: 500-points, I fielded all my stuff from before (with rethought-out loadouts) plus three Raveners and a Biovore, whereas he upgraded to a Daemon Prince and filled out his squads a bit more (also they were regular Marines now, not zerkers). My major mistakes was to use my Hormagaunts to attack his Chaos Marines (where they were barely in synapse range), hold my Termagants back, and have my Warriors fire at the Daemon Prince rather than the Chaos Marines. On the other hand, had the game gone on one more round, his Daemon Prince would have been beaten by my Raveners. Result: I lost - but by all of 16 points!
Third game: (Not against him, but he watched anyways) 400-pt Combat Patrol against Orks. I fielded two Lictors, 12 gaunts and my 3 Warriors against his 10 Slugga Boyz with Nob, 6 Flash Gitz, and some Lootas kitted out with Devastator squad gear (plus a Nob). I made a big mistake by getting one of my Lictors killed, but after that I managed to gain the upper hand by decimating his Gitz and teaming up my other Lictor with my Gaunts to kill all his Sluggas. The Lootas proved tough nuts to crack, but I managed to kill the 1 last Loota boy that brought it below 50% and gave me those last hundred or so VPs I needed to carry the win.
I know Mike loves his Daemon Prince, and I know he has tons of Chaos Marines, Noise Marines, and Khorne Berzerkers to choose from. He also has Daemonettes, a Chaos Lord with Termie armor, an Obliterator he never uses, a bunch of Terminators, and a Keeper of Secrets. Also, there's his brand new shiny prized Predator tank with TL Lascannons. He usually plays an upgrade-heavy army, pimpng his forces out with just about everything he can (we're talking a 300+ point Daemon Prince, and a nearly-320-point Predator.)
The models I have available to me right now are 8 Termagants, 8 Hormagaunts, 3 Warriors, 2 Lictors, a Biovore, 1 Spore Mine of each denomination, 3 Raveners, and a CC Flyrant.
However, soon I'll be going out and getting a Battleforce, and we might get Macragge also - he'll convert the Marines to be Chaos Marines, and I'll take the Tyranid models. Also I intend to get a second Biovore. So, my forces will then consist of 26 Termagants, 16 Hormagaunts, 6 Warriors, a CC Flyrant, a Carnifex, 2 Biovorea, 3 Raveners, 2 Lictors, a buttload of Spore Mines, and 14 Genestealers.
So far, this is the list I'm tossing around:
HQ: Flyrant 207 Pts (Wings, STx2, +S, +I, Toxic Miasma, Warp Field, Bio Plasma)
E: 4 Warriors 152 Pts (Deathspitter, Rending Claws, +S, +Sv, +BS)
T: 15 Spinegaunts 75 Pts (Spinefists)
T: 7 Genestealers 140 Pts (ST)
T: 7 Genestealers 140 Pts (ST)
FA: 3 Raveners (Rending, Devourer) 150 Pts
HA: Carnifex 176 Pts (STx2, +WS, +Wo, +Sv, BioPlasma, Spine Banks, Toxic Miasma, Tusked)
HA: 2 Biovore 110 Pts (Bioacid)
My idea is to do a Take & Hold mission, where my Carnifex holds the objective, my Stealers wipe out his Daemon Prince, and my Hive Tyrant takes down his Predator, and from there the rest of my army closes in.
So, my questions are:
1.) Any critique on my list?
2.) Any thoughts on what kind of list he might take (well, 1/2 his points are taken by the DP and Predator anyhow, and I know for a fact he'll be taking them - he's a serious sucker for those two models)

Re: 1200 point game
well first off i dont see how he can take demonettes and khorne dudes in the same army.
im guessing hell take 2 squads of 10 chaose marines and the prince, and the predator. and thats atleats 1000 points all together!
though he still has lots of options beyond that point so lets just go from what he probably will take.
no matter what he will have a very low model count. so by taking out his marine squads, possibly with your genstealers supported by biovores, you can cut his army nearly in half with im going to guess only 12-10 models left on the feild. The fex though i dont suspect it to reach the tank should try to get the predator. If his demon prince charges any of your units thats when you throw in your tyrant. dont let the tyrant engage the demon prince face to face Because the prince will most likely win.
though i cant give you much besides that since i dont know what that last unit will be.
