Default First terrain pieces (picture dump)

I just painted my first few pieces of terrain a couple hours ago. Very plain, boring stuff, just hills and rocks.

Two of my brother's marines.

And his defiler.

Terminator lord is back.

I'm not too happy with the rocks...you can see the lines between styrofoam pieces.

Now this is something my brother made, some kind of rock slab with chaos icons on it, and toothpick spikes.

Some weird sacrificial thing, apparently...

Hey,
you and your brother are quite good terrain makers!
Sure, the pieces you made are "boring" but they're good boring What I mean is the pieces themselves dont have much flair but they have been made and painted well.
The first set of hills are really nice! Well done, the only way I could think of improving these pieces is to glue on another sort of "grass". Ground Oregarno looks good and makes the piece look different, and gives it more texture. Or maybe you could put some of the modelling sand onto the static grass to have the same effect.
Next time, to get rid of the lines where the styrofoam meets, you can apply some PVA glue to the cracks and smother it over evenly, that should work.
Overall, well painted pieces of basic scenery. Well done!
Cheers

That slab will make a GREAT objective... you could even make missions based around it.

The terrain looks good. IT may be boring but thats what hills and rocks are meant to be

Wow it looks good. I do not think hills and rocks are boring when they look that good. Good start.

Very cool looking terrain. I wouldn't worry about the rock spires, they look fine. Sometimes you can be your own worst critic. Keep up the good work! +1 Karma!

First terrain pieces!? They look like they've been made by a veteran! The paint job is defining and the terrain looks well-built. A good combination ... kudos to you

A tutorial? Basically I just cut insulation foam into little squares, with two or three bigger pieces for a base, glued it together with hot glue and then shaped it with a GW hot wire cutter until I was happy with it. I covered up some of the seams with spackle, but I got lazy and didn't do that for all of them. Spackle helps create a rocky texture, too...and in my case I had some kind of paint problem and it started bubbling up in some places, but I mashed all the bubbles down and it just created a more interesting texture in my opinion. :P

I used Apple Barrel paints for all of it, so I'm not sure which colors I used.
