Default take me down to cardboard city....

Hello all.
After seeing this article on the GW site, I got it in my mind to try a cardboard city. As I never do anything halfway...at least I never start out doing anything halfway, my initial plan was to build 24 square feet of city & road. Right now, I've got 12 square feet of buildings under way. I also have a 2 square foot "park" and a 2 square foot industrial complex which still have to be assembled. That means I'll have about 8 square feet of roads broken into 6"x6" intersections and 6"x12" road sections. I'm saving the roads for last because they'll be the easiest.

Obviously these buildings are still under construction. But the basic idea is to build the frame - tape the edges, prime, paint then cover with a textured spray stone finish. The result is pretty nice so far, IMO. But I still need to flock them with sand and more rubble. As I get them done, I'll post updates.

Enjoy.
Em

Those are some great buildings…and will make a helluva striking table to wage a City of Death game on.

I love the vertical quality as well as the ease of use functions you put in there…big windows, large floors and high ceilings. Very nice!

My only suggestion would be to maybe add some details to the walls…even some cereal box cardboard strips below windows or between 'em will add a lot of differentiation between the ruins. Coffee stirrers (the wooden ones) also makes some great cheap flooring for any special building.

Great stuff, F_E! I can't wait to see it completed with a few minis for scale.

Can you tell me which "textured spray stone finish" you use? I've been trying to use something that ISNT spackling or plaster.

Plasti-Kote "Stone Touch" Manhattan Mist color. I got it at Wal-Mart for about $6.00 a can and one can did those buildings that are already coated in the pictures (but I primed with grey & black first). They have several colors. But I'm going to need to seal it because it's not drying tack free.
