Default Styrofoam Building

I finished sculpting and basing a building (yay ;D) out of styrofoam ( I plan to spray paint it later)

So what do you think?

I like it, but DO NOT spray paint Styrofoam. It dissolves like cotton candy...

He, he, he. ;D Why'd you ruin it? Can you imagine the look on his face as he watches it melt into goo? :P

I'm kidding of course. Don't spray paint it...bad things happen.

Clear coat it with Future Floor Wax (an acrylic coating that you can brush on) or paint it with Latex or Acrylic paints. You can spray paint it after it is coated and sealed.
Good luck!

Well, acrylic or latex paint can be found at most hardware stores, Walmart, where ever really. Future can be found at most hardware stores...I'm not sure where else though. It'll be in with the cleaning stuff. It's clear but it's also very thin so you can easily brush it on...you could even mix it with grey acrylic paint to make a good wash.

Hey .. psssst ... spray paint is very good for weathered down effects because it dissolves styrofoam .. keep that in mind.

I find a watered down mix of PVA glue and sand/flock is the best option. Not only will it protect the foam from the spray paint it will give it a really nice texture.

It's a pretty cool piece, though. I would distress it a bit more to mask the blocky shape of the foam. You can check out my tutorial on polystyrene buildings in the stickied threads for some more ideas.

I find that superglue is much better for that sort of thing, as it's much easier to control.
