First off....

- How big is the board?
- What kind of board are you doing; Sandy, City, Snow etc
- What kind of board do you want it to be, Moduar (Where you can change it around) Or non-modualer (Stuck to the table)
- How much do you have to spend (Dont have to give exact just.... Alot or not alot will do)

When you awsner these Q's will be alot easier.

A good board is not necessarily a fun board, so use the features you enjoy on others boards. I'd use ruins, craters and (on a big enough board) trenches -but that's the kind of challenge I enjoy, figure out yours before planning the board!

And whichever way you go, dryfit: make sketches. Make a lot of sketches of the board, the quarters, the roads -the lot.
That way you have to think instead of wish, and can see beforehand if a particular part of your board will work.
And get a friend to criticise your work. (criticise as in comment and suggest, not flame..)

Ok i have decided to build a no-modular board (for just the landscape) and i will add moveable trees and loads of different Terrain pieces that can be moved around for different tactial challeneges.
Here is a rough gudie to what the board will be like using the simple programe of paint.

Any tips or ideas which can help me bring this to life please give me details.
Also i need to know what materials to buy and where i can get them .
Cheers :P

If you build the road out on foam core it will be able to bemovearound for a bit of variation.

you should buy static grass from GW, sand from the beach is fine for the roads, (GW sand is to chunky where sand from the beach is nice and fine). If you cant get to a beach (ie. you live inland) GW sand should be ok. For the river you could use resin for a more realistic feel.

I would...

- Buy a grass mat from GW at I think 15
- Buy a few hills from GW (Unless you want to make your own in that case get some foam insulation and cut it to size.... Only problem is making it look good when you flock it)
- A river is easy to make, Get a peice of wood in the shape you want the river, put strips of foam along the edge of it and then make them smooth, so it acts as a small bank for the water, Paint the inside blue, and genaraly build up the lightness of the blue. If you have enuff to spend, get some GW water effect and paint that on the surace. Then sand and flock the banks.
- For roads, Get a piece of wood the length you want the road to be and just paint it grey and then dry brush it a ligher grey, But make sure you texture it with sand.

MAKE SURE YOU MAKE IT MODUALR, yOU WILL PROBABLY REGRET IT IF YOU STIcK IT ALL DOWN, Just a tip
