Default Water Effect

A short while ago, GW released a Water Effect.

Has anybody used this stuff, and if so, does anybody have any hints about it? Is it, in fact, worth it even?

the best thing to do if u want water, is either paiint blue with white highlights or for a deep lake, you paint it the same, then put a piece of clear plastic over top, then paint that up very very thin.

it hs a 3d look to it and looks awsome

That's what I usually do. But I am more interested in the Water Effect, as I know nothing about it.

I know these little plastic beads you melt and pour onto a board. Pretty impressive when done right...

Never used it. I'm intersted though, and might buy GW Water Effect.

The water effect from GW and the resin drops water effect (what you mentioned) from Woodland Scenics are two totally different things.

I've use the WS stuff. It's small beads of resin that have to be warmed up and poured into the form that you making.

The GW stuff is a milky liquid that you drop pour into the area, and let it dry.

I know the WS stuff, and it requires a lot of work to get it right. But I don't know the GW stuff. That's why I'm asking, because I want to make water without the effort of warming things up and cleaning the pan etc... afterwards.

I use something called "True Water" if I remember right. Essentially made for fake flower vases. Mix, pour, done.

That's what I thought it would be, from the basic product description.

I've tried it now, and found that for anything deeper than about 1mm or so, you have to do multiple layers. And that is hard. Get any dust or so trapped in it, and there it is. And with a 12 hour+ drying time per layer, it can take time to get a deep pool.

And after all of that, is it worth it?

It looks pretty realistic, but with such an unforgiving drying time you may have better luck just painting it.
