Default Flocking Clear Flying Bases?

I'm new to Tau, quite frankly, and have recently started my first unit of firewarriors. I was wondering, what do you guys do with your clear bases, flcok them like the rest of your army or leave them clear?

What do you think looks better?

Honestly I like clear bases. If I could I'd have ALL my units in clear bases as it matches any terrain. I suppose you could base the flying units but that's personal taste.

Yes I actually like the clear bases.

If you flock them it looks sort of wierd because it is raised up and there wouldnt be a bump in the ground in real life. Well maybe...

I only use the clear bases for my drones because I like to think they are flying high above and shooting down enemies by the dozen ;D

But really why use bases at all? I mean, these are the TAU we're talking about, not some Space Marine army. They've got anti-gravity technology, the things when properly assembled should just levitate there. :

It looks a bit plain when just left clear.. but that's just the big flying bases - of which I've based one so far (as I use the big flying bases for all my tanks). For the small ones, I intend on flocking them (note: you probably need to sand the bases a bit to 'rough it up' so the PVA will stick to it) to fit in with the rest of my army once I base them too.

I still think that you all just aren't constructing them right. If you did the Tau technology would help them levitate without need for bases.

If only, now that would look spectacular...

Strange thought occured to me - I know this is slightly off topic, but speaking of bases - anyone seen the planes/minis/etc. that you can float in a magnetic field? Try apllying it to a model, drilling a hole, fitting a magnet, etc. interesting idea...

I think I'll leave the drone small flying bases clear for now, just to see what it looks like when I get the entire army together, if it looks to plain i'll snow 'em.

You know, it'd be hard but I bet you could rig up something rad with magnets. Get a real powerful Rare Earth magent and mount them with opposing polarities in the base and the drone. Or you could set up a ring of them with opposing in the base and one attractive one in the center that draws the drone to the center but the opposing keep it in the air.

It is possible, but in no way could you even suggest its practical. the base would have to be perfectly level, and if I'm not mistaken the magnets would have to be constantly spinning.

Could possibly use an electro magnetic coil with small watch battery, however, this would start reeling up on the credit card.
