Default cool snow table......help?

I have a tau army with sort of an arctic color scheme, white armor black under suits and the like and i am building an 8 by 6 table. I want my board to be kind of like hoth from star wars but still have that kind of tau look to it. Any suggestions?

P.S. I am new to 40k and tau so any other advice is welcome as well- O0

go buy the hot wire gun from gw or a craft store, a few sheets of styrofoam insulation sheets from a hardware store or where available, a bastard file to smoth edges, polyfilla drywall filler type stuff for makin craters and other landscape effects, and lotsa of craft paint in the colors you need, then go outside grab rocks and twigs and just weird lookin stuff and make little pyrimids with the foam on tabel round edges and you got hill terrain add sand gravel and paint white

Just look at photos of what other people have done, and how they did it, and it will come to you. GW have alot of photos of good ice world gaming tables. If you would like to know how to do somthing or are confused about somthing please don't hesitate to ask.

8 by 6is way to big for a beginner. I would go for a 6 by 4 or even a 4 by 4.
To make it look like tau, put in a landing pad or something to make it look more spacey.

Not to be rude, but why is it to big. An 8 by 6 can be very versatile, merely cut it into sections so you can play a 4 by 3 board for small battles and for team and many player battles use the big board. Do be advised, if you do a one on one with relatively small armies it will take at least 2 turns to make it anywhere near your opponent.

sence snow is a "rolling" terrain type you might want to use a hair dryer on the foam to the the effect. Also get "snow" flick and mix it with semi-gloss white paint for the wind swept edges or areas where snow has collected.
