Default Broadsides Vs. Hammerheads

What are your stances, on Broadsides vs. Hammerheads?

I personally am planning to do 2 hammerheads, and 3 broadsides.

What are you guys planning to do?

Pure Hammerheads.

Certainly, Broadsides have their uses but they are too immobile for my taste, and far too vulnerable to incoming fire. Hammerheads have more varied weaponry (give me Ionsides and I'll bring six!), and can move long distances while still keeping up the pressure.

I would take 2 hamerheads and maybe 1 or 2 broadsides, but from my experience, tanks usually get targetted more.

I prefer the Hammerhead. It is far more versatile and mobile. I equip it with Railgun and SMS. When and if my railgun is taken out I just slip behind cover and continue to harass the enemy. The broadsides rely on waiting for enemy units to come into their fire lane where as the Hammerheads can shift around. With the multi tracker the Hammerheads effectiveness increases greatly. There is nothing better than zooming around at high speed and still fireing all guns. Also the railgun can punch tanks but it can also drop pie plates on infantry. That versatility comes in very handy, especially against armies like the Daemonhunters that field termies and guard in the same army.

As for the targeting frenzy that tanks get I use that to my advantage. I know the enemy will be gunning for my tanks and I rely on that to draw attention away from other units.

I think I will only ever field a Monat broadside in medium-sized games. In larger games I would field 3 hammerheads and in smaller games, I simply wouldn't field a broadside.

The only thing the broadside has going for it is that it is cheap. It provides more coverage of the table, IF you have 75 points to spare (and not enough for another hammerhead.) They are not mobile and are exremely vulnerable.

Broadsides are good for their multitude of accurate railguns. Hitting on 4 with a re-roll is better than the HH, so for anti tank these boys are slightly better at what they do. However their survivability is less than that of a hammerhead (excluding the times where some punk with a lascannon manages a glancing 6, or decoy-launcher re-roll catastrophes) and they have to be deployed with a good view to really have an impact.

The hammerhead has to be one of the best tanks in the game. If correctly armed and upgraded it is INCREDIBLY versatile and can take out tanks and troops with equal fervour. Even marines have to fail a save eventually.

The problem is that their slow movement means that any opponent worth his salt will keep his heavy stuff out of their line of fire.
