Default Help about bonding

Please may someone tell me what happens if you bond in a firewarrior squad.

Read the codex. It states exactly what it does.

In an obscure way without quoting exact rules and such (since that's against policy) I will asssume you ahve read it and don't understand it. The pertanent rule in the BBB that this references is the fall back rules. If a squad takes a certain number of casualties it must make a break test, if it fails the test it falls back. On the begining of your turn it must make a break test again if it is over a certain number of models. If it is under a certain number of models it is not allowed this test. Bonding will allow you to make this test.

I have never seen the use of spending ten points for the possibility of saving 40 or less but some do. If the tau are breaking you are-
A.- getting out shot by your opponent
B.- getting charged
C.- getting owned by some horrible psychic power/skill

In all of these cases retaking that break test in another round won't really help your cause except perhaps drawing a bit mroe fire/skill usage before your opponent moves onto another squad.

I hope this cleared some stuff up on the skill. I know sometimes I confuddle people to no end so if that's the case then ignore me =)

It is 10 points better used elsewhere.

Amen to that. If you have trouble with your units breaking up, get an Ethereal.

Exactly. Don't bother with it...

This advice doesn't make any sense. How can your ethereal help if you're not allowed to take a leadership test?

Bonding is essential. Tau have expensive units with very small squad numbers, and many of our units fall back 3D6". Nothing is worse than losing two 60+ point crisis suits only to have the third run off of the table. Or two stealth team members. It's also a huge help with victory points. A lone fire warrior rallying then ducking behind some terrain makes a 65+ victory-point swing.

I don't know about other generals, but I want every model in my army fighting, not running away, and the only way to do that is with bonding.

That doesn't make any sense. You're always allowed to take a leadership test, and with a reroll of morale checks you are unlikely to fail, especially with the more expensive units with higher leadership.

On the other hand, bonding allows you to RALLY. Which has nothing to do with a leadership test. You test against your leadership, with no help from an ethereal which allows you to reroll morale checks only.

I will now shamelessly lift the bonding analysis from the mech tau tactica. ... which I can't access. The point is, it is very unlikely that bonding will ever help you. If you are going to take it, take it on a very expensive unit where, if in the unlikely case it actually kicks in, it will save you a lot of points.

Ha-HAH! My free 56k connection finally got through to MTT... you get what you pay for. Here it is: http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/...e.html#Bonding

Bonding is only cost-effective on 3-man Crisis teams or (in certain circumstances) stealth teams. Unless you are playing a very large game, you should never be fielding 3-man Crisis teams.

Fire Warriors should never be bonded. If they are reduced to below half strength, they are all but useless to you. Spend the points on vehicles upgrades or markerlights first.

IMO, bonding is only usefull when your using VP. And even then only if you suspect high casulties. Id still have an etherial around anyways, though.
