Default the tau "empire" (future veiw)

in several other threads such as "a case for the tau" "Wow manta" etc. several people have mentioned the possibility that if the tau can play there cards well, stay under the radar and avoid the "knifes edge" there hanging on for several thousand years they might one day become a real power in the 40k universe. I was thinking, what such a empire might look like?

I was thinking to Major things they would need are

-a fleet of war ships, not merchant ships w/guns, real war ships that could take advantage of tau tech and lots of them.

- Bigger ground war machines to fight bigger planetary wars.

- they would need many Nicasar Pyskers deployed through out the empire allowing them to detect incoming ships at warp and navigate the warp and thus achieve reel speeds at inter stellar distances.

What are your thoughts? future

I do believe they will more than just the new boys on the block. They'll be the new boys in the block that will kick your behind. I suspect a Rome-like catastrophe will occur, just like Julius Caesar's assasination. The Ethereals will do something bad, and the Tau will fall under disarray, hence a Mont'au. Then a Fire Caste member will rise (possibly Farsight) and gain control over the Tau. He'd be a fair, respectable leader, a man of the people. He'd persuade the Tau to crown him Emperor with the Ethereals as his advisors (Roman de ja vu) and they will go into a militarical Golden Age (just like the technological Golden Age, but with the Fire Caste). The other castes will be more involved with the military. The Air Caste will form an Air Force or something similar to the Imperial Navy, the Earth Caste wil focus on weaponary, the Water Caste will do all diplomacy needed, and the Ethereals will advise the emperor on what to do. Very Rome-ish, but that is my belief.

I have said this before and aren't believed by anyone, but I just have a gut feeling that something similar to this will happen, and I hope it happens. It will show the progression of the Tau, from unaware kids to men who know what they have to do.

I have my doubts on that score Black Behemoth... the codex hints at pheromonal control by the ethereals... a caesar-like fire cast leader would in effect be merely a puppet sniffin etheral suggestions in your example. Its mind control baby! O0 Farsight ran off doing his thing on his own successfully due to 2 things... the dawn blade (possessed or unpossessed? you make the call ^-^) and his ethereal escort died... there goes the pheromones!

Mind you part of what you said is coming true... the events since the gulf of damocles have fast tracked the Tau Navy and although it operates differently due to warp skimming travel its numbers have increased dramatically in 200 years.

If the eldar still hold the tau in a favorable light and continue to consider them their only hope then thats another race that will support the tau in its existence if not its expansion.

If the Tau manage to dodge another waaagh or Hive mind for a thousand years and dont tick the Mon-Keigh off too much... they may just build enough military might to hold their own... but like in other recent threads they could easily be squished if any one race decided to fully focus its energies on them to destroy them. >

They've got them. However, they tend to guard the First Phase colonies rather than roam the borders of the empire.

They've got them (read the Epic rules).

I'd agree with you there... at present, Tau detection systems are so blind they may as well not exist.

If the fire warriors were to rise to power I belive that more races will arise and that they will become more CC inabled or just more visious

aite... wif the rising to power of the FC, theres 2 big probs.
1. the tau are bound togeather for the "greater good" and this is done by the ethreals.
2. the tau almost whipped them selfs out... and i believe that if the fc tries to become the leaders there will be a massive civil war and all will be lost again...

just puttin it out there, do wat u want with it

This might be a little of topic but ... Where are there mentions or texts that say the Eldar 'like' us?
Maybe it's in one of the books ... FW etc. Because I still haven't bought them. But I'm planning to. And are these books good?

But my guess is that the Tau Empire, like Black Behemoth said, would follow some Roman tread. But I'm not sure if it's O'Shovah taking control. I think it's more that each Ethereal gets his own 'little' part of the empire. This would confirm the report of the new codex being called: Tau Empires. If I recall correctly. These Ethereals would be under the command of the Emperor ... Not who that would be ... Maybe an Ethereal that has special psychic powers :P

The Tau are the only race the Eldar don't hate, I wouldn't say they like them, they're just not enemies.

In the Tau codex, anyways on topic it is possible taht Eldar join the Tau to stop their race from dying out or even make a sacrafice to save the Tau (lets hope not Eldar are cool)

We only have a quote from the late Eldrad Uthran on the subject. He felt some kinship with the Tau. He was also fairly old and you know how fuzzy-headed old people can be around kids. We really have no idea what the bulk of the Eldar think about the Tau, if they are even truly aware of them.
