Default Gun Drone Upgrade: Scoring Unit?

Evening folks. Just wanted to know if the detachable Gun Drones on the Devilfish and possibly Hammerhead were scoring units. I am inclined to think that they are, as the rules for them state that they may detach and function as a separate unit. Any thoughts or comments?

I doubt it, since they are part of the Devilfish/Hammerhead and not a seperate unit par say.

Yes, after detachment they are a seperate unit. That much is a given, the question is if that unit is capable of scoring. Since the unit they formed is at full strenght with both drones present, it opens up the possibility for a severe rules abuse - a devilfish claiming two table quarters or objectives in one turn!

Devilfish can't hold quarters or objectives - they are a dedicated transport.

Andromidius is correct. A Devilfish is a dedicated transport and is never a scoring unit. *

The Tau codex says they form an independant drone squadron once they detach, so they would be a acoring unit, albeit a very weak one.

The MTV lie is that people who rebel against tradition are thnking for themselves, while those who follow tradition are just sheep who do not think.
It is, of course, completely untrue. The decision to follow tradition is just as much an exercize of free will as is the decision to depart from it.

My mistake, but the FW team inside it can. The ideal layout would be to bail out a FW team to hold one area, then zip away and detach the Drones and then hide them behind the 'Fish so they don't get knocked down in seconds.

Its an independent drone squadron but under four drones it cannot contest or hold objectives.

Remember that scoring is calculated by starting strength, not numbers. Detached drones will have a leadership of four, because they do not have at least four models, but that will not affect their stating strength, which is two.

Yes, I remember. You should remember that a gun drone squadron of four that takes a single casualty and ends up at three even if it makes its leadership check for casualtiesdoes not count for scoring/contesting. Any squadron with less than four drones cannot hold objectives.
