Default Gun Drone's BS

Since gun drones are twin-linked, their BS is not exactly 2. I heard ppl saying that it is really 3.5, but I'm not sure. Can you clear this up for me? Math equations would help.

Thanks, Pyromaniac

By mathematical terms, BS2 w/ twin-linked weapon is more accurate than BS3 with normal weapon.

With BS2, you hit 1/3 of the time.
With BS3, you hit 1/2 of the time.
With the BS2, you get to hit twice, so you get two shots at 1/3. Check in with the percentages and you'll see that having two shots at a third of the time is better than one shot at half the time.

Hit Percentages

Basically its looking at things statistically.

BS 2 means you hit 2/6 of the time. or miss 2/3 of the time. As you can reroll misses, that means 1/3 of the 1st 2/3 will hit. all with a common denominator..
1st Roll: Hit 3/9 Miss 6/9
2nd Roll(reroll): 1/3 of the 1st rolls misses will hit, that is, 2/9 overall
3/9 + 2/9 = 5/9 = 55%

soooo... 55% is less than 7.5% above 50% meaning that BS 3.5 is an overstatement.. since BS3=50% and BS4=66%, then an actual BS3.5 would be 58%.. which is NOT 5/9ths.....

Well it's good enough for me! I wonder if markerlight drones will either have improved BS, or a twin linked markerlight...for 30pts, having a markerlight that hits on a 5+ just isn't worth it.

Looking at the model of the Marker-drone, it appears to have a Markerlight and a Burst-cannon. Not really a winning combination.

Well it could change from the forgeworld model if it makes it into the Tau Codex of course, but I assume the drone could only fire the markerlight or burst cannon anyway...hmmm

I calculate it as still 50%. Tell me what's wrong with my logic:

Your first roll is thus:

1
2
3
4

5 hit
6 hit

You ignore the strikethrough ones. They are an impossible result.

Second roll:

1 miss
2 miss
3 miss
4 miss
5 hit
6 hit

So you have a total of 8 possible outcomes, 4 of which are hits.

I'll use the "big numbers" method.

Say you have 36 drones (scary). When they fire, 12 of them hit and 24 miss.

You then reroll the 24 misses, and 8 hit and 16 miss again.

When you add them up, you have 12 hits from the first volley and 8 hits from the rerolls, for a total of 20 hits of of 36 shots, or an accuracy of 0.5555... repeating.
