Default Appearance of plasma

I plan on making a conversion of a crisis suit firing it's plasma rifle and was wondering if anyone knew what the plasma would look like as it leaves the barrel of the rifle. I'm not sure if it's a beam or a ball or what.

Whatever you want it to look like.

Don't tell me that you fell for the MTV lie?
The MTV lie is that people who rebel against tradition are thnking for themselves, while those who follow tradition are just sheep who do not think.
It is, of course, completely untrue. The decision to follow tradition is just as much an exercize of free will as is the decision to depart from it.

The cover of the codex has a firing plasma rifle. There, it is blue and white, wispy, and beam-like.

As DireStrike said it does clearly show a firing Plasma Rifle on the front of the Tau codex. The Tau Codex being that A4 sized book which is essential to play Tau, and the Plasma Rifle being the firing weapon on the arm of the Crisis battlesuit in the majority of the picture. Eye's are a novelty in this day and age...

Well good luck with the conversion korik1...

(techno-fluff warning)

Ref: Travellers book Fire, Fusion, and Steel (very kewl 'basics behind the tech' sourcebook, btw)... comparing WH40K Plasmas with Traveller's PGMP-10 (Plasma Gun, Man Portable- Tech level 10... a very VERY nasty gun)

Plasma is desired for several reasons: 1- it is HOT (duh), and 2- it is Conductive. Conductive is what makes it a good choice to hurl at things, because its relatively EASY to hurl it, and keep yourself safe.

how to 'shoot' it at someone? make a magnetic accelerator, much like a Rail Rifle or Guass Gun (thats a very basic delivery system.. kindof a plasma flamethrower (promethium?). a more advanced form of delivery is to sent the ball of plasma down a 'conduit' of ionized air molecules (the air ionized by a low powered laser beam).. see the air molecules will keep the plasma in a self containing tube.. and also promote the Magnetic Bottles' (see below) integrity in an atmosphere

how to keep yourself safe from 2 million + degree 'goo'? contain the Plasma in a Magnetic Bottle (basically a spherical shell of magnetic force, all pushing 'inwards&#39, to get a 'package of hot splattery death'. the 'package' is physically seperated from the gun mechanisms and pretty much everything else, limiting the heat exposure, and, bonus, keeping the Plasma from cooling down.. the bottle is sent out the gun, moves along a while, gets destroyed by electromagnetic contact with ANYTHING solid (e.g: the field 'grounds out&#39.. SPLAT!

Plasma can also be made to be highly radioactive, or even be sooooo durn hot that the atomic nucleii of the Plasma Material starts Fusion reactions, making the plasma literally a tiny piece of the center of a star... this however is a bit overkill for anything... and, to go even MORE overkill (what man could resist THAT?).. you can make antimatter into a magnetically conductive Plasma just as normal Plasma, and contain it in a Bottle and shoot it out safe and sound... until it hits something.... >

anyways, using this frame of background reference, you can get a feel for what plasma 'shot' would look like... basically, an incandescent pill shaped blob.. hmm maybe a scorpion-Green Tic-Tac.....

I loved the way that they did plasma in Fire Warrior - that bright neon blue flaming ball of plasma death; you knew something was going to die when that thing hit. I'd do it something like that, personally. It could probably be almost any color though - lightning itself is white-blue, but the sun is orange, but there are also many different kind of suns. The bright green highlight they used in the Space Marine Codex looked pretty cool too, that might be a good color.

I'm thinking a thin spring or wire wrapped into a coil, covered in thin cotton, with blue and white paint sprayed on it might look good. Of course, I'm not the one doing the converting! ;D
