Arrow My painting - constructive criticism please

Hey,

I finally finished my first first fire warrior team and would now ike some constructive criticism.

please be aware that these are the first models i have ever painted

My color scheme is from Ksi'm'Yen - they are night fighters and so their camo is very dark.

My pros:
- i like how i went with glow effects they do not seem bad for a first time
-the color scheme was awesome i think :P
-good for a very limited number of colors
My cons:
- i did not file my models for some reason XD
-highlights are crap, not bad but i was disappointed in the end, especially after looking at all the awesome models in GW
-I feel that dry brushing the whole model is a cover up for crapness but nothing i could do and i dont really wory bout that

Now for the display:

It's hard to tell whats done on purpose and whats not such as the highlighting and do you mix your paints with water because some of the consistencies of the paints seems to vary a lot.

i don't water down my paints at all by the way and yes i know most people recommend you do but unless you have a very set way of doing it you can end up with inconsistencies and a generally sloppy look.

The paint job (or whatever you'd call it) is pretty good, it appears sort of camouflage which is nice. On the first model I think you could've added in a tiny bit more detail on the Tau's face to make it seem more lifelike though. That said, I don't see any obvious flaws with the other miniatures. Maybe more detail or highlights would help but as you said earlier highlights are your weakness so you might want to leave them the way they are. Also, I really like the bases you made.

Very nice first models/paint jobs. Suggestion for practice style that was made to me years ago (paint as if a new recuit or soledier going on parade, then add dirt and dings to the models so they have a more progressed and natural look to their cammo/dirt/wear and tear) just a thought.
