Default Shield Drone Models, where to get?

Hello there all,

I am a new tau player, and just getting back into 40k after about a 5 year break. Last time I played it was 3rd edition rules just to date myself.

Anyways I got a commander, crisis suit and a pack of firewarriors to start with, and that all come with 4 gun drones. I am noticing that a lot of people seem to be using more shield drones then any other drones. I am just wondering how they model them, in the book they look like gun drones but with a little disc thing under them. I could take the shield generators from the suits and use them but then I couldn't use them on my suits. Currently I am trying not to glue anything to my suits till I play some games for fear of picking stupid wargear or just deciding later that I don't like _____. I am just going to use blue tack or something till I figure it out.

I assume most people just play with gun drones and call them shield drones or something along those lines, just wondering though what people are doing?

Thanks for any help, and these forums rock I am getting so many ideas and advice hope I wont stink too much my first game.

Kevin

Truth be told your right in your assumption the vast majority of tau players simply stick excess shields to the bottom of gundrones it's ok to do since it's very rare you'll use them on your suits but you can get specific "proper" shield drones but only from games workshop directly at least as far as i know

I had my local shop special order me two packs of conversion kits. Each kit gives you enough parts to convert four gun drones to shield drones. Took about five days to come in and I've been very happy with the resulting converted units.

Yeah they look better than "normal" gun drone conversions but still paying for something you don't really have to is a bit much for some.

True antisocial, very true. For some paying the extra is a bit much and some just prefer their own custom mods for models. In my case I just prefer to start with everything dress right and them start my mods. But it is personal preference and nothing more.
