Default Obscured Target

Hi,

I have a Piranha which i will be fielding against a friends imperial guard army next week.
it has a fusion blaster to try to tackle some of the several tanks he likes to field.

I have included disruption pods to give the obscured target rule if shot at from over 12" away but just wanted to check that i get the 4+ save on all glancing / penetrating hits that occur in one round (so if a unit fires several rounds and scores 3 glancing or penetrating hits, i get to roll for a 4+ save for each?)

Correct, you would get to save vs all peratrating or glancing hits that the vehicle would take.

The problem really lies with the Piranha, it has to be within the Dpods range to even use the Fusion Blaster.

I have to admit, I tend not to use The DP on the Piranha, if its whizzing around the table it gets the 4+ save for Skimmers moving fast anyway (move over 12" and you get a Cover save) and if you are moving within 12" to fire your Fusion the DP will not work.

It depends how you use your Piranha, if you use them as a mobile screen it may be worthwhile, if you use them as late game objective contesters - it isnt - 5 points saved :P

I tend to use the DP on my Piranha, since if it goes to harass some armour or artillery on one side of the battlefield, other enemies trying to save the target are going to have hard time getting their shots through the DP and will waste shots that could otherwise hurt my other units. ;D

I always take the Dpods, as sadly the Piranha cant outflank, which would make it at least a bit useful.

Personally i always prefer taking my Piranhas as TX-42s, more firepower, more armour, better accuracy. Its what the piranha SHOULD have been from the beginning

It's a Forgeworld model --> I believe you need Imperial Armor III to have the rules but I don't own it so I'm not sure.

As for Piranha + Disruption Pod. I'd go for it. It's defense against enemy units other than your target. Chances are most of the enemy army will be outside of 12" (unless you're going after a transport :-X).

And it's really cheap.

ALWAYS take the D-Pod.

It is cheap and while you cannot take advantage of it when firing at the vehicle you are trying to take out, it prevents enemies from all over the board from attempting to take you out. It is really too valuable and cheap not to take.
