Default Problem with rail rifles?

I personaly love rail rifles, mainly because it's fun to be able to punch through my bro's SMurf armour. But let's face it, It makes little sence. A railrifle has no recoil. So why is it a heavy weapon?

because it requires the user to not move in order to fire it.

Have you ever seen kentucky long rifle. they are almost five feet long. this in greases the range and power but makes it hard to move and aim. same concept the rifle is longer than the marksmen is tsll that will cause a problem

It was addressed in the fluff. Like all weapons in the game, the Rail Rifle has a clip which holds loads of ammo. Problem being the power requirement for the output of the weapon exceeded what was originally designed. In order to keep the hitting power, they had to add a port for an extra energy cell to be hooked into the weapon. (this is that cylindrical thing that juts up off the stock.) This cell is good for exactly 1 shot. So, hard-hitting, but it has to have it's power cell changed after each shot. Hence the Heavy designation. It's not necessarily that it's cumbersome. In fact it doesn't seem to be much longer than a pulse rifle if that. It's just that the switch is not something that can be done rapidly.

The fluff also worked in why the weapon suffers from "Gets Hot" when you add the TL to the model. Apparently the circuitry for the TL module on the weapon isn't sufficiently shielded from the power cell's energy release. So, when we roll bad, there's feedback and it fries the user's brains.

Hope this helps.

Balance reasons. I guess you could claim it's physically "heavy" and requires bracing to fire it.

This thread goes bumpity bump.

Railguns do have recoil, just not as much compared to guns of equivalent power. However the 'heavy' status could also mean time needed to load, aim and fire the weapon. Assault weapons are more like automatic weapons, and rapid fire would be semi-auto that don't need as much aiming at close range.

The concept behind the railgun, would either require reseting of the piece that drives the projectile forward, or recharging the batteries etc.

Heres a vid of one firing > http://mace.darktide.net/forum/Downl...ailgunshot.wmv

Ok, maybe not so much recoil, but it still takes aim and a lot of electricity.

Nice footage finding Mace, I have seen some articles about the US navy and ''rail'' technology as well as a huge breakthrough for weapons that they would want to adopt eevntually. The recoil factor must be a big advantage against modern artillery I guess, I also suspect rail technology to be safer...
