Shrouding? its not that difficult to see them. Shrouding is 3d6X3. you can see them from 54" away. Considering thats almost twice the range of your rifles, on average they should always be in your sights.

and thankfully it only affects grey knights. stormtroopers, and allied units get no benefits!

They are the grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."

Edit by 42: Posting too much is never a crime! However double/triple posting is! Don't sweat it this time, but in future if you want to add to something just modify that post to avoid double posting, Cheers.

First of all, Shrouding does not give you a max of 60, as 3d6 alone has a max of 18, times 3 equals 54, which is almost double the range of pulse fire.
On the other hand, on average, the normal max distance is more like 30-33", not 54. This is still long enough for all but our longest ranged weapons.
Shrouding is not very strong. If you're afraid of it, move up to 24" or something, where you almost negate it most of the time, as a triple one is incredibly unlikely.
But really, there are little special tactics that you really need to use against Deamon Hunter Grey Knights. At range, they're mostly overpriced SMurfs.
All you need to do is use a lot of Pulse fire to take them down. You amost don't need to do anything else. Just shoot a lot, then pack up and move when they get close.
Just don't let them assault you, as they will manhandle you completely.
I don't even know how you're having so much trouble against these guys. They have almost no anti-armour, and they have a very low model count. One of the lowest in the game. There is little reason why you should be losing against them, personally.
What is it that you are doing?

The-Last-Tau:

We actually had just began a discussion on this in another thread, just a little be before this one. You may be able to find a little information that handy. If not it would be good to ask a more specific question. For example, if you are having trouble with shrouding, there is only one way to get around that--get closer. Doing so with infantry or from a static point of view, simply will get you killed. Doing it from the hull of a skimmer, that will gain you ground and probably win the game. So if shrouding is making your range useless, gear up towards the close range fire fight. That means, multiple units, broken up into smaller factions, sticking together and focusing on the same target - that way if he attacks you back and you lose some, you still have many squads which are not locked down (such as in combat) giving you much more flexibility to respond to them when they finish up.

More information: http://forums.tauonline.org/index.php?topic=9577.0

Cheers!

I would agree that Daemonhunter's Shrouding is very annoying - especially if you're able to roll triple 1's when shooting at units 10" away...

err, you are new here (welcome to Tau Online!) so I wont rant at you, but your comment realy has nothing to do with the topic at hand. *You also might want to remove the duplicate post so a mod doesn't jump all over you

Shrouding actually offers less protection than nightfighting cover, of course with the exception of Blacksun Filters. *Remember the benefits of shooting Grey Knights - after you get past Shrouding, they are no worse than normall Marines, and the enemy will feel it when they start loosing models - they are 25 points apeice!

Not just that, GK Termies are 46 pts each. A BS or some plasma can get their points worth in about two turns of shooting alone. That's pretty impressive, personally, and sighting range shouldn't be that big of a deal as it is.
