Default Cheaper pathfinders!!

I have three boxes of firewarriors and im only planning on using 24 of them. Should I convert 8 of the FW's into pathfinders (and use the rest for a kill-team) or just buy the models individually?

Buy em, especially the rail rifle models, they are worth it.

Thier nice models to have if you want them, which I did. But since making them, the've recieved little play time. So IMO just convert some and try them out, if you really like them you can get some later, and use the FWs as carbine carrying FWs. The only models you'll really need to buy are the pathfinders with rail-rifles (of course nothings stopping you from converting them too).

Then again, it will boil down to your choice of "convert time" or "play-time".

I'd rather surf ebay or (shock-horror) buy it from my local gw store !

Hey you´re right. That's the only way to survive in times of GW-horror-prices.

I'm a big fan of converting. Normal pathfinders are easy to convert but the ones with the railguns not. So I decided to buy them. And 'cause you don't need many of them it hurts less to buy them.

There's a little article I wrote about Tau conversions, and it includes plastic pathfinder conversions (complete with Rail rifle). Very bad pictures though - you can barely make out the blurred outlines.

Personally, I like the poses and the overall dynamic feel that the Pathfinder models have. However, something about them I hate, is that they have grenades on them (I don't buy grenades for them, so it looks weird in a more WYSIWYG point of view) and the worst thing about them is that they're so unbalanced in their nice poses that they don't stand up very well. The single model that is stooped down like he's tracking under a branch just doesn't stand up for very long before toppling over.

You get a lot of carbines in those Fire Warriors boxes, so indeed, you could easily convert them to Pathfinders. I would take all those little hunching over models that are on one knee or something. And actually having 3 boxes of Fire Warriors is a good thing, as 24 Fire Warriors can be 3 squads of 8 - while giving you that other magical 8 for the Pathfinders, as well as plenty of bits to ensure you get the poses you like best for them. And it's cheaper too. Though of course, it will require some conversion work, just to make sure your opponent can see that they're pathfinders (such as little tubes and wires to show off the markerlights). If you plan on using railrifles, make a custom railrifle (personally the ones GW casted are just silly looking - Tau are too weak and small to hold something that huge and that long. We're not space marines here....). You could easily convert them from pulse rifles/carbines with some imagination and a good file

So, I vote convert - and hope to see some of your new models in the conversion boards

Cheers!

Send them to me, I'll put them to use ;D

I voted to buy them because I like the R rifle teams, but you can do as you wish.

I would buy only the one Blister of RR's (two railrifles), having to buy the second blister and only being able to use one of those RR's really sucks!

You have two pathfinders there.

Now convert the other six from your box giving you a nice squad of 8 pathfinders with two railrifles. Which is enough to get you "some" kills with the RR's but not enough to make them a big target priority.

or

Convert one of the 6 to your third pathfinder as Mal suggested with a modified RailRifle for less back strain on your Shas'la.

Which should still leave you with six models left in the box, Now you have enough for 3 ten man squads of FW's

Which was what I should have done but instead I bought the pathfinders from the begging
