Markerlights (standard) cannot be used by the unit firing them, while Network Markerlights can be used by the unit firing them.

For example:

A squad of Firewarriors can have a Shas'ui armed with a Markerlight. Because it is a standard Markerlight, you cannot give that Markerlight's bonus to that same unit of Firewarriors (but another unit can use the bonus).

If that same squad of Firewarriors had two Marker Drones with them, however (because the Drones have Networked Markerlights), that same squad can utilize the benefits of any markerlight hits from those drones.

See the difference?

Ahhh i see, so for example, i have two FW squads, one has a shas'ui with a ML he uses it against an ork mob but then his unit cannot shoot said ork mob? But my Other unit of FW can?
Can the squad of fire warriors with the shas'ui shoot anything?
This also makes me realise how helpful drones are!

Sorry if that doesn't make any sense by the way!

Yes. The unit with markerlight can also shoot that boys mob, they just cannot use the bonus granted by their shas'ui's markerlight.

In that situation Elliot, I'd probably have a ML on both squads. then they could have the same benefit using the others ML hits

This would give you between 12 (long distance, 6 man squad shooting) and 48 (12", 12 an squad shooting) shots at BS4, S5, AP5, which would ripe ork boyz to shreds.

Thanks a lot guys, im sure these all sound like noob questions, but i guess thats what this place is for right?
Also with Pathfinders, do there guns have ML built in?
So i could have 8 ML shots at one target??
drools......

Indeed.

But remember, at the cost of some ML hits, your can equip them with Sniper Rifles Rail Guns, and seeing as the MLs on Pathfinders are Networked, think of the havok you will cause.

I think that's slightly flawed; Their markerlights count as standard, not Networked.

Indeed it is flawed.

There are 3 networked marlerlight unit in that tau army. The Markerdrone, the sniper drone spotter and the skyray.

Stealth, fire warriors and pathfinder uses regular markerlight.

Edit:
If you use FW units then it varies a bit here though.

I don't think that would work,

don't you have to use up one unit's shooting first then move on to another's? (not to mention that on a 4+ the odds of both hitting is only 25%)
