Default Drone use, theory.

Now, from what I understand a unit takes majority armor saves and toughness. So in effect in a bonded squad of 3 crissi/broadside suits and 2 drones the drones benefit from a toughness of four and an improved armor save if your unit is targeted by 4 or more wounds, giving them the ability to die first once at 4 and twice at 5 wounds, unless wounds are assigned before they are saved?

Unfortuneately, I believe wounds are assigned before they are saved. There should be some kind of rule for drones....

Ahh, still moderately useful. Does the majority save/toughness still apply for saving the wounds or is that only for determining instant kills/wound potential earlier in the phase?

Majority Armor Save goes to the models with greater numbers, not wounds. So yes, while your drones are considered T4 for being in the majority. If a Space Marine Razorback fired it's twin-las at you, you'd immediately lose one Crisis Suit. So it's a trade off.

Also, while drones do get a bonus to toughness, their armor remains the same.* Mixed armor just forces them to make saves after the crisis do in this case. Majority toughness and mixed armor apply both to saving the wounds and casualty removal, not just insta-killing.

Yeah, we covered this topic to hell n'back a few weeks ago:

Give it a read, it puts the majority save / mixed armor rule into perspective.
