I'm new to Tau. In the codex, it does not seem to prohibit Kroot from using markerlights nor does it say they can. For other things, the codex specifically prohibits Kroot. Thanks.

'Fraid not bud. The codex states that "Tau units can benefit" from Markerlight hits.
If memory serves me right, I read that it's something to do with the Tau helmets. Peace.

Nope, Kroot cannot use markerlights, and Vespid can only do so while the strain leader is alive. Maybe one day Kroot will be able to use them. If only somebody would come up with a rule or character upgrade that would allow that. Hmmm.....

Well, at least they can ride in a Devilfish now. Unfortunately, doing so requires a pretty anemic kroot squad. I think it would make a good house rule that you can split the squad across multiple devilfish that will then act like a vehicle squadron until the kroot are dropped off.
I think we will get some special characters or more upgrades for the kroot in our next codex. As much as I like the kroot, and they are consistently one of my most point-effective units, they need some more toys. Fleet, grenades, Assault weapons, and markerlight use would all make sense (although I have to admit markerlight and fleet don't have much support in the fluff). With luck, we will get some of those things in the next Dex, even if it requires a special character shaper to do so. There was a model for a new shaper at Games Day recently, and he shows up in the 5th edition rulebook (The guy doing the overhead chop with the kroot rifle). As far as I know, there is no way to buy that model unless you can find one on ebay. |

IIRC the kroot are described as having a deceptively fast gait in the codex, but I'm not sure if that would count towards fleet....
Alrighty, the reference I was thinking of is in the first ( I believe) tau codex, a fluff piece stating "...a jerky, deceptively fast gait". So not much support, as has been said.

Kroot who focus on hunting Eldar gain fleet, I believe, much like those who focus on Orks gain T4. I think that's what mentioned in the Merc codex.

Kroot (and vespids I think) can not take advantage of markerlights, only Tau related units can.
