It is as following: The Tau are a very advanced technological race, and as such have access to advanced weaponry, armor, sighting systems etc. Inside the helmet the FW's have a little "screen", which is made up from images through the helms optical "eyes" (the two on top of eachother). Almost like modern cyper-choppers, where the pilots get images on their "screen-helmets".

Hope it helps you out

I think that is right, both eye have to work together. If they used only one for vison, you would lose a sense of depth perception. Like wearing Night vision goggles, both eyes looking through "one" scope, you lose a sense of depth perception.

I think the real question is: Why is this in Army Lists?

I believe that this would serve better in the Tau or Off-Topic Boards...

The Tau helmet is a function of their apparent lack of depth perception. We have to assume that Tau use stereoscopic addition in order to perceive depth, just as we do (and just as all the other races seem to). While it is theoretically possible to stereoscopically add two images offset vertically, your eyes would have to be oriented in the same way in order to reconstruct a 3-D image (which Tau eyes aren't). It also is not very efficient, given that there is generally less need to differentiate distances on the up-down plane. The only way a Fire Warrior could perceive depth is if the helmet itself is constructing two artificially-offset images from what comes into the lens. I guess that is possible, but it does seem excessive.

Khanaris, could you say that again so that those of use who don't know what 'stereoscopic' means can actually understand what your saying?

Don't take it for granted we're all as intelligent as you
