yes i cant go in to detail but they are weapons used to light up a target and u can use one other weapon to take advantage of it by letting that weapon hit on a + 2 with no cover saves

maker lights use the modles BS to hit. then they allow 1 Weapon in your army to hit the designated target on a 2+, though thats only one model. Hope this was of any help.

the model with the markerlight (pathfinder, fire warrior shas'ui, stealthsuit shas'vre) uses his BS to hit. SO markerlights are fired like standard weapons, using the models BS. In all cases, markerlights hit on a 4+. For each markerlight that hits, one model in your army may fire one gun at that target, hitting on a 2+, and cover saves are ignored.

For example, 8 pathfinders "light up" a unit of ork boyz. you get lucky, and get 6 hits. your stealthsuits for example then jump out, using the markerlights to guide their weapons, and target the lighted ork mob. the team of 6 fires 18 shots, hitting on a 2+ and wounding on a 3+.

thats it! theory, and an example. have fun!

Or Else you could take out charters in their units by using it against Chaplin or something.
P.S. IF you have the points, seeker missiles are your best friend.

I think its best use is to light up big stuff for your Broadsides ;D I love seeing the look on peoples faces when my friend says: Ooook, and now my 3 broadsides hit on a 2+ ;D

Unfortunately, the Markerlight must obey normal targeting rules.* It can't be used to pick specific models out of enemy units (although that would certainly be fluffy* ).

Markerlights are the only way to use seeker missiles as well. Some ppl say u can just shoot them but doesn't say that in the codex. When u use the markerlight and make the 2+ for the missile to hit, the enemy unit GETS to have its cover save. I may be off topic but this is the only exception to the no cover ability and it says in the codex. Markerlights are one of ur best friends u can have.

The Codex does not say that the Seeker Missile is an exception to the no-cover-save rule.* That rule is found in the Tau FAQ, and makes no mention of Seeker Missiles.* You are correct that it literally only applies to cases where the markerlight is used to improve a model's chance to hit and not to a fired seeker missile.* I have to imagine this is an oversight rather than a deliberate omission.
