Default Devilfish Tactic w/ Pathfinders and Fire Warriors

Is it possible to have 2 5-man Pathfinder squads with Devilfishes, and then have the Devilfishes leave and pick up Fire Warriors and do FOF? If so, I believe Pathfinders just got a little better, making their Devilfish requirement useful sometimes. >

Unfortunately, no.* :-\ The Devilfish is a dedicated transport purchased for the Pathfinder team, and may not be used by any other squads. See page 62 of the main rulebook.

A few vehicles, the Land Raiders, for example, can be purchased as Heavy Support choices instead of squad upgrades. They can transport anyone they like. The downside is that they occupy a space on your FOC. I was never really sure why GW introduced the "dedicated transport" rules. I imagine there are ways in which you could exploit transports with units that where never meant to use them.

I hope they get rid of the dedicated Transport thing.

I mean, logically, wouldnt a pathfinder team, operating ahead of the main force, want to try and stay hidden? Instead of having a Giant Colorful Bolter magnet sitting right beside them?

Question about that, since a Devilfish is attached to the PF squad, does that mean it has to maintain the 2" conherency? Is it possible to unload the PF, then run the DF off to flank the enemy so when firing off seekers you can be hitting side and possibly back armor? If not...I REALLY object to that rule.

Thankfully, no. Transports are not required to be anywhere near the squad they were purchased for. Pathfinders may deploy in one corner while their Devilfish deploys in the other. They are also considered seperately for determing victory points.
