Default Kroot

I have never been fond of kroot to be honest but they seem to be quite popular in many of the tau armies I have seen. The reason they do not appeal to me is they are not very in-character if you know what I mean. despite this however, I am considering getting some (cos it may be fun ;D). I was wondering If anyone has any tips or strategies on how to use them in a game...

thanks in advance.

I play City fight Mainly so I would say toss them in a bunker or ruins so they have a great saves and their cheap
P.s. They suck in CC Even with the Shaper save.

40 attacks when charged and striking first "sucks" these days, eh? My, my, my...
The Kroot have good WS and S, but poor initiative.

The best stategy is to infiltrate them more than 6" from the edge of a forest. The enemy can't see or shoot them, but the Kroot can look out and pour bolter fire. Then let them be assaulted; unless your enemy has Frag grenades or the equivilent, the Kroot strike first and realy make a mess of whoever is attacking them.

How do you mean by 'not in character'? That intigues me...

Not in character? The Kroot's biology and culture exude the Greater Good. They eat the dead in order to better their species; how much more akin to Tau belief structure do you need?

The thing to realize is that the Tau, unlike other 40k races, are not Xenophobic. They're not seeking to rule others, their seeking to improve everything for everyone. They also realize that they need the help of others to do it.

um...I guess I mean tau armies sould not really be CC reliant. I was mainly talking about in game situations rather than actual tau attitudes and background. But I am aware of the reason for the tau-kroot relationship.(for example) I suspect that honour blades are not power wepons because the designer wanted players to avoid CC. I have nothing against the kroot, they just didn't go well with my style of playing thats all. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone who uses them. This is why I wanted to try them out in the first place, really.

And thanks for all the imput so far guys.

I, myself, like Kroot. They can either distract your opponent from attacking your Fire Warriors and Crisis Suits, or they can be in cover until your opponent comes into assault range or rapid fire range, making use of their abilities. Besides, they're cheap and you can have lots of them in a unit.
