Default Bit Powergamer-y?

Albeit I play usually 2.5k-3k points in Tau (Kroot pfffffffff) Farsight enclave (with out the Farsight) I recently have been playing 1000 point game out of the 10 I play I only lost 1 (That guy was cheating, I quickly billed up his army list he was about 150 points over. In hindsight I shouhld of said something.....But back on topic: I play Marines....Too many Marines (Out of the 50ish people I know about 45 of them play Marines no joke.......) Thus having a very specialised Marine army (which also preforms very well against other armies) pretty much everything I field is AP3 or better.....but recently I have had people call me a powergamer.....Just a quick brief list of what I field:
Shas'O and 1 battlesuit body guard
5 normal Battlesuits
3 Stealth Suits
18 Fire Warriors
2 Hammerheads...
Whith some amazing witchcraft I mangaged to fir all of that in to 999 points......It sucks in objective games so I rely on just murdering and melting Marines in to little puddles.....
So I ask your views on this: Is that a power gamer list?

You have three troops, three elites, one HQ and two heavy supports in this setup. Hopefully the suits are mostly fusion/plasma and the stealth suits are SMT. Though consider lowering the commander suit to an 'el and giving him a targeting array to save points in the future.

I see nothing power-ish about this list. Your above the minimum in troops, something those marine players are most likely not. Your tanks are not tough to kill, they will have a cover save most of the time but big deal, its no land raider. What your mostly encountering is the "space marines are invincible" mindset that many tend to have. This list would have trouble with massed scout marines with snipers and camo cloaks, but since everyone and their mom loves power armor...

In short, your list is fine. Remember: tough cardboard plastic armor with strong weapons tends to beat tough metal armor with meh weapons.

The chances of successfully penetrating a hammerhead's front armour (with disruption pods) with a lascannon are actually very similar to that of a land raider. When firing its railgun, a hammerhead is more likely to successfully penetrate a land raider than an enemy hammerhead's front armour. Only if the hammerhead were shooting at an enemy hammerhead's side armour would the chances of successful penetration be the same as shooting at a land raider.

As for the list, i don't think it's overly powergamery. But if you're playing friendly games, i say try to mix it up a bit. For example:

1st week: have a static gun like full of broadsides
2nd week: deep strike everything except the troops
3rd week: Go ninja and pathfinder crazy
4th week: bring in vespids and kroot (kroot have their moments, but the vespids will at least make things more interesting)

It's easier to make interesting lists with higher points values, but even at 1000 you should be able to vary what you bring. And by the sounds of it, you do have a lot of Tau to pick from.

No broadsides....Useless, they just get nuked first....Points sink.....(Waiting for flames) A Fusion blaster is much more fun to take....Just the fun in deep striking about 6 meltaguns....The look on the poor mechinised Guard player when in turn 2 pretty much all of his tanks are dead.

Wow.........I don't have ANY Kroot or Vespid........They are awful......I managed to obliterate a Tau army with Kroot in it with just the average Joe Guardsman... Then I gave him my army and he just trashed me...In about 3 turns
Vespid? Why would I field them? Plasma Rifles are better......Pulse pistols are better..Vespid are metal figures......I hate metal figures......Thus why I try to get models to repesent metal models....(Yes, I really hate come of the Tau things I could go and list them out.)

Broadsides rock the kazbah, but they need to be used properly.

Your list looks fine. Nasty, but fine. Something I'd expect if all you fight are marines.

Its not powergamy, its impossible to powergame with Tau.

I've only had my Broadside commander ever killed 3 times in about 6 months, playing at least a game a week. Trust me, used right they're highly resilient to the point of nigh-untouchability, deal incredible damage to opponent Armor and ICs/MCs, and serve as the perfect kauyon bait for the rest of the army.

You can have Broadside commanders?
But I just don't like them, I would buy them if I liked the look of the model.....It just looks like a Crisis suit with 2 guns and squashed fists.......if the model was more dynamic I would love it.....Asides from that, thanks for your replies....

"Broadside Commander" meaning my Team Leader in the broadside group, sorry for the poor wording.

broadsides + shield drones my friends. they save the day. Also if you deploy them on the OPPOSITE side of the table, they are generally well out of range of any "big" guns, and are safe.

I'm sort of on the "forget the kroot" fence myself, but i had 12 from the battleforce i decided to use one day beccause i had spare points left over, and they rolled over 3 scout squads. Effectively making their points back 3 or 4 times over. I'm waiting on some hounds at thte moment, and i want to try them. I5 beats most space marines (also 99% of the players at my store mind you) Who always manage to get me to assault range. I feel the dogs may actually save my butt, even if just a distraction.

for a 1k point list, and "power gamer"ie - what you have is some what decent honestly, id agree on its fire-power. Could you break down what upgrades are on who and what? Do you use 18 FW as 3x 6-man squads? Some little details may help us with your question. For example, 5 crisis suits... 2-2man teams and 1 solo? or a 3 and a 2? how do you do it

For that same 1k point game if you wanted power gamer stuff, try 3Railheads, shas'el, no stealth suits (point values), the troops might be ok with as you have, and the crisis suits would work as are. at 1k points your basically fielding 3 Land Raiders honestly, most people cant counter that

Oh......Anyway, since I started this topic I played a small 1000 point game.....Against, guess what? Your never ever, ever gonna get who I was fighting against More Marines.......Needless to say with the lack of Terminators and tanks......(2 things in Terminator armour.....(His HQ and a Libarian) he just fielded tactical squads, and the odd biker and scouts....But the problem was, he was just surging forwards.....So I had to keep shooting the Tactial squads and (If you play WoW you might know this term) try to kite (Keep the enemy from getting in to melee combat) the rest of the army.....Happy to say with the sher amount of melted Marines, I happily won.....With minor casulties...About 5 Firewarriors and a Crisis suit.....But when I won I offer him a handshake and tell him
"Good game, if you want I could offer you some extra tips for playing a army like mine, you interested?"
He looks at me and says
"Why? Tips from a cheap powergamer who doesn't play for fun only to win, I wouldn't learn anything."
Now I felt that it was uncalled for but.....Needless to say following the so called state of mind known as pacfism I just stayed calm and when
"Your loss."
And he then just (No jokes here.....) takes a swing at me......All because he lost his game.....Now this actully done something to my mind (Not a good thing) and really made me think........Whether I should just stop taking this list.......(I might just post up a quick post of the army list some time in the future) So honestly.......I'm tempted to entirely change the army......Drop a hammer head and fit more troops in....Any comments?

While writing this I see someone has replied to my thread....The crisis suits are in messed up squads.......Shas'o and bodyguard.....2 Shas'ui(?) and a lone (usually deep striking) anti tank Shas'ui(?) I'll post a list up of it........Just in this thread or in the army lists one I haven't thought about yet.
