I don't often take shield generators, but i would only consider taking iridium armour if i were also purchasing a couple of shield drones to benefit from the 2+.

I would take a shield generator, because Iridium Armour hinders the Commander's movements. The role I use him in requires all the movement he can get.

I say shield, because Iridium is unreliable for JSJ, and shield is invulnerable.

As shield drones and iridium armour are not mutually exclusive, it's irrelevant. The question is clearly asking if you would be more inclined to use up a hard-point on a shield generator over iridium. Both cases allow shield drones.

I usually take Iridium Armour and two Shield Drones, since that gives the Commander three 2+ Saves, plus two Invulnerable Saves.

If possible I also take a Bodyguard with two more Shield Drones. This team is capable of saving against a volley of a Devastator Squad, while I have 2 x three hardpoints to fill with whatever I like.

I'd rather use up a hardpoint on a Shield Gen, because my crisis teams are all about mobility. With the Iridium Armor, and my crappy dice rolling ( :P ) My Crisis will be able to JSJ to ..... nowhere.

Okay, perhaps I need to give more information. I have an army list for un upcoming tourney and my commander has 23pts and a HP spare.

Now. he is armed with TLFB and primary target is vehicles. So he will either be DS for artillery or walked on for DP spam. As I've pared down everything else, (and I have no shield drones left) I have the choice of fitting a BSF and IA or a Shield Generator.

I always take the shield generator on my commander who fills a similar role, at least part of the time anyways. The iridium armors lower assault move can be a real hinderance, and most likely your enemy is gonna shooting weapons that'll likely either be piercing a 2+ save, or not be piercing a 3+ save.
