Talking to a friend yestreday. And we talked about making a 1500pt Tau army with just a ton of fire warriors. About three crisis suit, three broadsides, two 3 man pathfinder teams, and two devilfish. Any thoughts on this would be interesting to see to help furthur the making of this army or to stop it before it gets started.

OUCH!!!
It's was a good concept in 3rd and 4th Edition since this is the definition of a Static tau army. However in 5th Edition it doesn't fly as well. Now I'm not saying not to do it: It would be an interesting themed army, just don't expect it to win too often. The Broadside and the Suits would be priority target 1 and 2 to remove any chance of Anti-tank capability. Your suits would have to be Helios (FB and PR+ MT) or Sunforge (TL FB and TA) to act as secondary Tank hunter and you would rely on forcing your opponent to do a lot of saves hoping they will miss them. 2 'fish -and I recommand warfish- would give you minimal mobility and the capability to pull FOF though. Should do ok vs horde and GEQ. MEQ and MC will be your bane.

Against players that don't trick out their list with as much armor as possible then the idea would work. Basically a setup for playing an opponent with hordes.
Keep in mind the idea here is an army that you play for fun, in any kind of tournament, players will have as much armor as possible and many other units that fire warriors just can't kill. However, so long as you don't fight anyone, that say tries to fit two landraiders and some other tanks in a 1500 point force, you should have fun with it.

First get rid of one broadside, in 1500 pts you only need a unit of two to get any job they need to be doing done.
-so in replacement- get some armour, if you go to the store, always buy the skyray box as it has all the parts to make a devilfish/hammerhead/skyray for pretty much the same price as the standalone devilfish box or hammerhead box(also you can build embakements or bunkers with the excess pieces from the Skyray)...at 1500 pts the pie plate for the Railhead is devastating, plus it can act as your 3rd broadside if you need it too. Also Pathfinders are your vangaurd unit, splitting them up like you are doing will make them too weak and innefficient. Make a solid (read-larger) unit and play around with the RRifle to see if its to your liking. -so in replace of your 1 pathfinder unit- You need a Stealth team as thier infiltrate and possible inclusion of two MDrones is very very useful...i can tell already that you are going to make the noob mistake and not have enough MLight support. Im playing at 3000 pts and I personally use 6 11 man FW's La'rua(3 pulse carbine and 3 pulse rifle). Along with two Railheads, a Pathfinder unit, Stealth, and a four man Crisis suit team (also Vespid and a DFish troop carrier). It is an awesome tactic if you don't go half-axxed. My friend was flabberghasted when he saw that i had nearly as many units of troops as he did (and he's a Tyranid player...thats a possible 66-99 S5 shots each turn). Give one FW unit a DFish, and if the Pathfinders Dfish survives to turn two you can use that as a backup carrier for your troops, or just keep it for the Pathfinders, depending on battle conditions. A very important strategy with this kind of Tau formation is using the FW's as stepping stones. Use your PCarbine units to block CC assaulters(yes the unit will get wiped out) then when the CC assaulters are finished slaying your unit(often on thier first attack) use your PRifles to double tap death on them. I made a whole unit of non-helmeted FW's(i saved the heads from the units i bought and the Tanks) to represent the rookies in my army and they are always used as the first stepping stone (they have yet to survive a battle). Also since you are weaker on the APiercing, use a PRelay on something, and keep your HQ unit in reserve. Make them decked out with fierce APiercing weapons and shield drones galore since these guys will be doing all your heavy hitting(unless against horde, then give 1 bodygaurd the CiBlaster the other the AirBurstFrager). Don't forget your Pathfinders DFish capability of re-rolling their DStrike scatter Also look into Farsight as an option as he can give all your units Bonding for free. This kind of army is insanely more fun to play IMO, as long as you don't expect to Tournamentalize. It ends up looking like a real battle, you get to watch the brutal slaughter of a ridiculous number of men, and there is more option for strategizing(should i move him to a forward position or cover those guys). It also keeps the game going because there is so much to mop up. Oh, and look into Piranha's. WHo are you fighting against anyway...?
