So, I was wondering, when, (and if), the new Tau codex comes out, what changes would you like to see pertaining to the Crisis Suit, if any? Do you want them to be replaced by XV-22s? Replaced by some new kind of suit in between XV-22 and XV-8? Only minor changes? Major overhaul?
As for the model, would you just like to see some forgeworld suits made into plastic? A slimmer or bulkier suit? Or perhaps just keep it the same save for some added posability?

I would like a suit of similar sape to forge worlds XV88-22 which is awesome.
And AFL to become non-special issue.

I want the CIB to be Rending (maybe Str4 while I'm dreaming) and Standard Issue. I love it so much ;D
I like the idea of a Rail Rifle wielding Stealthsuit too. And maybe a Stealth variant of the XV8 suit for a commander.

Personally, I'd like to see XV-22s as a heavy troop option. Not so much as Elites, in the same manner that the guard have veteran squads available for troops. We can then add them in without effecting the XV25s. I wouldn't mind having some troops jump troops that can capture objectives. Give them a few fun weapon options make them pricey enough that people won't spam them all over their lists, but customizable so we can fill a role.
I would not like to see the XV-22s replace XV-8s for 2 reasons. 1) I don't want to HAVE to rebuy suits. 2) XV-22s can't carry the same armament based on their size.

Except it doesn't say it wounds regardless of toughness, it just says it's AP1 regardless of toughness (which is weird). Str4 would be nice.
And I still want it Standard Issue.

Actually, that offers an interesting line of reasoning. We have suits of various kinds for our HQ, Elites, and Heavy Support choices. Why not spoil us for more choice, and have the XV-22 (or a variant thereof) become a Fast Attack entry? Most likely, it wouldn't have access to the heaviest gear a Crisis could carry, but it might be as fast as Eldar Jetbikes. The question then would be of what it could carry, the size of the Suit team, and what its mission would be, in relation to the rest of the Tau army. Probably include "Hit and Run" as a special rule, though such a team would probably be frightening close ranged!
(( Or a Vespid improvement of some kind, since 70% of folks don't seem to like them much? :-\ )) As for changes? The Crisis really don't need much in the way of changes-- like a modern aircraft, all we need are different and updated weapons/equipment loadouts. Heavy Flamers, improved access to Cyclics (NOT STANDARD ISSUE! That would phase out Burst cannon almost completely; on the other hand, allowing any Shas'vre to upgrade to such a weapon wouldn't seem too outrageous, especially if they keep their current ruleset.) Airbusts as a standard issue (Though, perhaps taking up two hardpoints? One the "weapon", the other a sensor pod (LANTIRN?) to allow a reroll of the scatter die. 3rd hardpoint as normal.) Perhaps full "Jump Jet Boosters", allowing 12" move, 6" assault, but taking up that 3rd hardpoint all the same? Or allow "Hit and Run" instead? As for new Special Issue gear, a few odds and ends from the Apocalypse give ideas. Disruptor Beacon (to help redirect those pesky Drop Pods and Outflankers (perhaps the only good thing to come from all that painful Warp research... how to scramble it some more!) 12" area of effect for a 4+ chance of redirect?) Photon Barrage (Pinning test at -X, where X is the number of enemy models under the template). And also, totally steal Shas'O R'myr's battlegear, in the Flechette Dischargers (HtH attackers wounded on a 4+, once a game)..... and Double-barrel Plasma Rifle (Assault 2 Tau Plasma). And maybe that mammoth Shield of his (combine the 3+ Shield with the Flechettes?) As for Suits coming into the Troops line? I'd rather not, really.... Tau would become another "flavour" of Marines, and I'd rather eat my Manta than have THAT travesty happen! Ah, the possibilities. Dreaming to be sure, yet endless. |
