Default Question about buying drones

In the codex, it states that no unit can buy the same item twice, this means a unit with a drone controller can't buy more than one drone, of the same kind, correct?

Example: I wanted to buy two marker drones for a single stealth suit, however I read that the team requires 3 suits at least. So I added two extra suits and of the 3 of them, only 1 had a drone controller. This means only the one can buy drones, and could only buy one of each, correct?

Yes indeed. The drones are an exception to the Cannot buy the same wargear twice rule. Meaning that you can indeed buy 2 gun drones, 2 marker drone or 2 shield drones with your drone controller.

However you cannot buy 2 drone controller for the same model though.

As Boneguard said.

The exact wording is that no model, not unit, can buy the same item twice. Buying of two same droens is specifically allowed in the Armoury entry of the Drone Controller, as it allows any combination of 1 or 2 drones.

So just to verify, I can buy two marker drones with a squad 3 guys only having one drone controller.

Also say a squad requires 3 units minimum, can I have one unit and two drones to make that?

Yes and no.

Yes. You buy 3 stealth suit, give 1 a drone controller (and, unless it is Hardwired, you must give a wargear to the 2 others) and 2 markerdrone.

No you can not only take 1 stealth suit and 2 marker drone, because the drones are wargear and not units per say: they are outside of the squad size requirement.

Heck for seer fun take 3 unit give everyone a drone controller and take 6 marker drone. JSJ out of harms way and you have a fun mobile markerlight plateform albeit a quite expensive one.

I see, now my stealth team has targeting arrays on everyone and one hard wired drone controller, plus a marker drone. My other question is say I only have the one drone controller, can the other two units buy drones, or does that require a drone controller?

To buy drones you must have a drone controller.

If you want the 2 other stealth suits to have drones, you will have to remove the targetting array and give them drone controller instead.

Q: if you have more than one Drone Controller in the unit, do you need to keep track of which suit is controlling which drones? Or is it just a free for all, and as long as you have enough controllers for the number of drones, your good to go?

Yes you do, since whenever you kill a model with drone controller, the drone(s) he controls is(are) gone with him.

So let's take 3 stealth suit, each with drone controller 1 drones each:
If you lose a suit then lose 1 drone too.

However 3 stealth suit, each with drone controller 1 drones each. and 1 drone got killed before:
If you lose a suit then you lose 0 drone since you will get rid of the droneless suit.

Multi srone controller unit can be a headache for that.

And how do you keep track? (I'm trying a 6man Stealth Suit squad with 6 markerlight drones and 2 shield drones. ) that's 2 SD on the TeamL and 1 MD on each suit plus 1 extra on a suit.

Just saying. 6 suits and 8 drones can get a little confusing.
